Chapter 93: A Mysterious Organization and Another Title for Ye Fei?
One behind the other.
One swift, one slow.
Thus Ye Fei followed the black shadow, weaving all the way through the villa district.
The night deepened, growing ever darker.
But Ye Fei’s night vision was far from poor.
On the contrary.
His sense of smell was far keener than that of an ordinary person.
What he had not expected, however, was that the shadow seemed to be deliberately leading him. After circling the villa district twice, it actually ran straight toward the mountain behind it.
That mountain was the geomantic heart of the entire district. Under normal circumstances, no one was allowed to enter, and because of several fires in previous years, the place was pitch-black, with almost no lighting at all.
Watching the shadow vanish into the brush, Ye Fei hesitated only briefly. Without lingering, he hurried after it.
About two minutes later.
The figure stopped before him.
"Long time no see, Hawk," the figure said with a twisted grin. "Our boss asked me to send you his regards."
At those words, Ye Fei’s brows drew together. Then, like a phantom, he appeared instantly before the man, his expression darkening as he said, word by word, "So it was you lot? I was wondering who had the nerve to lay a hand on the people around me."
"The rats from the sewers."
"When I was abroad, you couldn’t bear the light."
"Now that I’m back in the country, you actually dared come knocking on my door?"
"Not afraid I’ll be in a bad mood and wipe you all out at once?"
The shadow let out another feral grin and looked at Ye Fei with a cold sneer. "As expected of Hawk. How did you figure out who I was?"
"Your body reeks of filthy water. That’s the smell of rats," Ye Fei said mockingly. "I hate that smell."
"I’ve long heard that Hawk is quite skilled. Seeing you today, you don’t seem all that remarkable. Forgive my boldness, but let me test you!"
With a broad grin, the man abruptly drew a knife and lunged at Ye Fei.
Ye Fei raised his left hand and, with thumb and forefinger, pinched the man’s knife-wielding wrist. There was a sharp crack, and the wrist broke instantly, the knife clattering to the ground.
"Just sent a useless pawn?" Ye Fei said expressionlessly. "Bring me the real one."
"Hahaha, interesting."
From the surrounding forest came the clear sound of applause.
Ye Fei turned to the right.
A young man emerged from nowhere. On his neck, a black tattoo was faintly visible. Though the surroundings were swallowed by darkness, Ye Fei could still make it out clearly—
It seemed to be a wolf.
"Black Wolf?"
Ye Fei looked at the man and could not help but smile.
"So it was you."
"The one keeping an eye on me these past few days was probably you too, wasn’t it?"
"To think you still remember me, Hawk," the man said with a smile. "As your former partner, I’m delighted."
"But I’m not." Ye Fei smiled faintly. "I’ll give you ten minutes. Tell me where my Ninth Senior Sister is. If you say anything that displeases me, I’ll twist your neck off."
At that, Black Wolf narrowed his eyes, the muscles in his face twitching. "You’re just as hot-tempered as ever, Hawk."
"I was never one of you," Ye Fei said with a sneer. "Back then, I only joined you to carry out a mission and kill your boss."
"Did you really think I’d keep company with a pack of sewer rats?"
"Heh-heh-heh..." Black Wolf laughed, not at all angered. Instead, he said, "A pity. I came today precisely to invite you to meet our boss."
"Many people in our organization are very interested in you."
"Sorry, I’m not interested in you lot." Ye Fei smiled. "To put it plainly, you still fear this world. You’re afraid someone will truly find you and destroy you, so you became rats, hiding behind all kinds of identities while doing disgusting things."
"Back then, if I hadn’t needed to complete that bounty mission, do you think your organization would still be alive today?"
Upon hearing this, Black Wolf burst into laughter. "Hahaha, Hawk, no wonder the bosses are so interested in you. You really haven’t changed one bit!"
"However, since you’re unwilling to join us, that only means my persuasion isn’t strong enough. I didn’t offer you conditions that could move you."
"Rest assured, someone else will come for you next."
"Also, rest assured."
"We never laid a finger on your Ninth Senior Sister. She already returned safely."
"We merely wanted to use her to draw you out and see whether you’re still the same as you were back then."
When he finished speaking, Black Wolf smiled and snapped his fingers.
Not far away.
A red beam of infrared light flashed across Ye Fei’s body.
It was the sniper’s targeting laser.
"Is that so?"
"And now you’ve seen for yourselves?"
"If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going."
The worry in Ye Fei’s heart faded.
He yawned and turned to leave.
As for the sniper, he had actually noticed him the moment he got out of the car.
He simply did not believe the fellow before him would dare lay a hand on him.
Although he knew little about the so-called organization the man mentioned, the little he had learned was enough to awaken in Ye Fei a fierce killing intent toward anyone in it.
It was an extremely mysterious organization.
Rumor had it that it had existed for more than fifty years.
They operated all over the world.
The organization’s composition was equally astonishing.
It was not made up solely of fighters, but also included so-called high officials, a certain politician, and the head of a major conglomerate—each represented within it.
The reason Ye Fei had once come into contact with them was that he had infiltrated them undercover to track down a deserter. After killing the man, collecting the bounty, and completing the mission, he had immediately withdrawn.
Even so, his identity was still exposed.
Thus, not long after he returned to the country, these people came looking for him.
In short, the strength possessed by this organization was unquestionably extraordinary.
Whether in military force, financial power, or influence.
To put it bluntly, it could certainly rank among the world’s top ten.
Moreover, they had almost no moral bottom line.
Mysterious. Powerful.
Those two words were Ye Fei’s assessment of them.
"Oh, right, let me tell you something!"
Before Ye Fei could leave, Black Wolf suddenly smiled at him. "Regarding what happened three years ago, I do feel sorry about it. However, I heard that—"
"You came back this time intending to uncover the mastermind behind that incident three years ago?"
Ye Fei’s expression darkened instantly—
Then.
Before Black Wolf could react at all, he saw a hand seize his throat.
A surge of killing intent swept over him.
In Black Wolf’s throat, a grinding, creaking sound rang out.
It seemed as though it could be crushed at any moment.
"You know about that incident?"
Ye Fei asked coldly.
