Chapter 39: Absorbing Spiritual Energy
Ye Fei couldn't be bothered to explain anything. What was so bad about sticking close to his second senior sister and living as a carefree idler? Others might wish for such an opportunity but never get it!
“We’re here, let’s get out,” Chen Yu said, pressing down on the brake.
By sheer coincidence, the moment Ye Fei opened the car door, he came face to face with Lin Qiqing, who was arriving at the company for a meeting. She had switched to a compact BMW Mini and wore a sharp office outfit. Their eyes locked.
“What’s wrong?”
“Why are you just standing there?” Chen Yu, still seated in the car, clearly had no idea what had just happened. She opened her door and got out.
In an instant, the three of them stood, their gazes meeting in a sudden triangle of tension. Lin Qiqing’s face darkened visibly.
Ye Fei felt a chill run down his spine; goosebumps prickled his skin. Before he could say a word, he watched as Lin Qiqing strode toward the building entrance without so much as a backward glance.
“Oh no, this is bad.”
“Ye Fei, if you’d like…” Chen Yu leaned playfully against the car, her figure drawing the attention of passersby. “Why not just move in with me from now on?”
“You— Truly a femme fatale!” Ye Fei shot her a glare, took a deep breath, and hurried after Lin Qiqing.
“Senior sister, let me explain!”
…
Two hours later.
Ye Fei finally mustered the courage to knock at the chairman’s office.
His second senior sister was buried in paperwork. Ye Fei braced himself and sidled over with a sheepish grin. “Senior sister, did you sleep well last night? Did you miss me? Did you have breakfast this morning?”
His barrage of concern was met with a single icy response.
“Starting next month, someone else will be taking over as head of security.”
“What?” Ye Fei jumped in shock, his face falling. “Senior sister, you’re not really going to kick me out, are you? I just spent the night at her place—that’s all! You can’t expect me to sleep under a bridge, right? I swear, senior sister, I barely even know her!”
Lin Qiqing’s pen paused. She looked up, her gaze frosty. “Whether you know her or not is none of my concern. If you have nothing else to say, please leave. I have another meeting soon.”
“Senior sister, do you have to be so cold?” Ye Fei pleaded helplessly.
“Unfocused, unreliable, and without a single skill to your name—I wonder what you’ve learned from Master at all,” Lin Qiqing retorted, her delicate nose wrinkling in disapproval. “Ye Fei, tell me: if Wangu Group were to go bankrupt, and your senior sister burdened with massive debt, where would you go?”
“I’d go nowhere. I’d stay with you, senior sister,” Ye Fei replied without hesitation.
He knew exactly why she’d asked. It was because of the troubles Wangu Group was facing. Though Ye Fei had a plan to resolve the crisis, the time wasn’t ripe to reveal it. Besides, the group wouldn’t collapse any time soon.
Lin Qiqing sighed, fatigue evident in her voice. “Tell me then, how did you meet Chen Yu?”
“I met her at the hospital. I’d learned some medicine from Master and helped her with an illness.” Ye Fei kept his explanation simple—he didn’t want to lie, but he also didn’t want to go into details. “Senior sister, so you’re not angry anymore?”
“I’m not that petty,” Lin Qiqing said coolly. “So, she owes you a favor now?”
“That’s right.”
Ye Fei assumed his senior sister wanted him to ask Chen Yu for help, and was already thinking up excuses to refuse, when Lin Qiqing said something that deeply touched him.
“In that case, if you ever find yourself at a dead end, or in real trouble, go to her. Chen Yu is from one of Hang City’s great families—her background is significant. Seize the opportunity.”
Ye Fei chuckled, understanding her meaning perfectly. He said nothing more, but fished out the card Chen Yu had given him at the auction and placed it on Lin Qiqing’s desk. “Senior sister, there’s half a billion on that card. Chen Yu asked me to give it to you as an apology.”
Lin Qiqing’s slender fingers trembled, surprise flickering in her eyes.
Half a billion. Not enough to solve all her problems, but enough to buy her valuable time.
“This…”
“She also said that if you want to thank her, just give me a kiss,” Ye Fei said with a wide grin.
“Get out,” Lin Qiqing snapped, her face darkening.
“I’m gone, I’m gone,” Ye Fei retreated quickly, seeing her temper flare. As he left, he tossed back, “Senior sister, this five hundred million should help you avoid some of those business banquets, right? Don’t go out drinking tonight—come home early and I’ll make you some of my specialty dishes!”
Lin Qiqing stiffened at his words. Tears gathered in her eyes, glimmering.
Exiting the office, Ye Fei returned to the security department. He gazed up at the bustling building and shook his head. So much of his senior sister’s effort was poured into this place; it would be a real pity to see it fall.
Back in his own office, Ye Fei couldn’t wait to take out the Qilin Jade Seal.
“To think I’d find such a spiritual artifact in a small city like Hang! I searched for months overseas and found nothing like this,” he thought with genuine joy.
He didn’t feel the least bit regretful about the three billion he’d spent to acquire it. The spiritual energy and fortune contained in the jade seal was priceless—no amount of money could buy it.
“If I can refine and absorb it, will my Nine Dragons Divine Art reach a new level? Master always said not to rush things, but I’ve been stuck at this stage for too long. It’s time to move forward,” he murmured.
At present, he hadn’t yet fully mastered the Nine Dragons Divine Art; he was only at the beginner stage. Even so, the spiritual energy it produced was more than enough for his needs.
“Just like money—there’s no such thing as too much.”
“With enough energy, I could use it for protection. My defenses would increase dramatically; even a shell wouldn’t scare me then.”
Ye Fei couldn’t help but smile at the thought.
“Next time, I may not get this lucky.”
He calmed himself, activated the Nine Dragons Divine Art, and wrapped the jade seal in his hands.
Soon, the seal began to crackle, emitting a faint glow. There was even the vague sound of a qilin roaring.
Infused with Ye Fei’s spiritual energy, the Qilin Jade Seal became even more lustrous than the finest mutton-fat jade, shimmering with a gentle radiance.
“If I sold this in a war-torn region overseas, it would probably fetch a sky-high price.”
