Chapter 123: The Arrival of a Master
The man’s expression was dazed, yet he clutched the object in his hands tightly. Ye Fei furrowed his brow; it seemed this item was indeed precious. He had not been mistaken—the spiritual energy emanating from the ancient bronze mirror was sufficient to help him advance to the third tier!
"Did you hear me? Put that down and get lost, or you’ll regret it!" Ye Fei reached out suddenly, and the bronze mirror flew into his grasp.
When the man realized his treasure was gone, he looked up to see it already in Ye Fei’s hands. Unable to bear the torment any longer, he burst into tears.
"That... that was all I had left! Boo-hoo, please give it back to me."
Ye Fei and Bai Yaoyao were stunned. This man was far too fragile. In such a situation, extreme rage or threats of revenge would have been understandable, but to break down in tears was unheard of.
The two stared at him blankly. Bai Yaoyao waved a hand and pulled out her phone. "Alright, stop crying. I’ll take a photo with you to make up for it."
The man looked up abruptly, a flicker of uncertainty in his eyes. In a moment of such total loss, could a photo with a celebrity really fix anything?
Ye Fei frowned slightly. It seemed his Third Senior Sister’s complete lack of social awareness was a lifelong skill. Their master must have taken her on solely for her looks and family background; otherwise, she lacked the aptitude to be a disciple.
"Senior Sister, let it go, let's just leave!" Ye Fei pulled Bai Yaoyao along. They had barely passed a traffic light when three figures blocked their path.
Bai Yaoyao pulled Ye Fei to a sudden stop, her entire body stiffening. Ye Fei found it strange; Bai Yaoyao was rarely afraid of anything, so why was she trembling so violently now?
"Senior Sister, what’s wrong?"
"Look at those three. They are from the Beilin Sect of South China—the Sect Master and two of his sorcerers."
The Beilin Sect was one of the most formidable factions in all of China. Their martial arts and swordsmanship were notorious, striking fear into the hearts of anyone who heard their name.
"The Beilin Sect? You're quite something, Senior Sister—you’ve managed to offend them too!" Ye Fei exclaimed. Just how many secrets did this woman, whom he had only met two days ago, keep hidden?
Bai Yaoyao grabbed Ye Fei and dragged him toward an alleyway.
The three men behind them moved like the wind, closing the distance rapidly. Ye Fei sighed internally. When their master took on disciples, did he never consider their temperaments? This Third Senior Sister was a walking disaster.
Although he was obligated to help his fellow disciple escape and ensure her safety, this woman required twenty-four-hour protection to keep her from being assassinated at any moment.
Reaching a corner, Bai Yaoyao shoved Ye Fei into a store. "Quick, go in, go in! This is my shop."
Ye Fei took a closer look and was shocked. This was no ordinary store; it was a world-class luxury boutique. It seemed Bai Yaoyao’s family background was truly formidable.
"Senior Sister, you're impressive—running your own business at such a young age," Ye Fei couldn't help but praise her. His senior sisters were truly at the peak of their fields.
Bai Yaoyao collapsed into a chair, glancing toward the counter where a man was staring at them intently.
"Excuse me, are you Bai Yaoyao? I’m your fan."
The man jumped from behind the counter, staring at her as if she weren't a person, but a stack of cash.
"Isn't this your clerk?" Ye Fei asked curiously. Did the employee not recognize his own boss?
Bai Yaoyao finally took a look around. She stood up slowly and whispered to Ye Fei, "Sorry, wrong shop."
...
His Third Senior Sister was not only a troublemaker but also incredibly scatterbrained. Ye Fei sighed, re-evaluating her. "Senior Sister, have you ever had any friends?"
Bai Yaoyao pouted, looking entirely innocent. "No. Perhaps it’s because of my status; I’ve always just hung out with you and the other sisters."
Ye Fei was once again stunned by her worldview. He patted her shoulder gently and said earnestly, "Senior Sister, it's not your status. It might just be your..."
Before he could finish, the shop door shattered.
Following a thunderous crash, the three men from the Beilin Sect stood in the doorway, radiating killing intent. Ye Fei’s spiritual energy could currently only allow for clairvoyance; he could not yet gauge the strength of others. That would require reaching the fifth tier.
Glancing at them, he saw that only the Sect Master carried a sword; the other two were unarmed. It seemed their sole objective was to take Bai Yaoyao.
To this day, Ye Fei still didn't know why Bai Yaoyao was on the run. He whispered, "Senior Sister, tell me, why is this major sect trying to hunt you down? I can't protect you if I don't know what's going on."
Bai Yaoyao cursed under her breath, looking troubled. "Basically, they’re just picking on me for no reason."
...
Ye Fei didn't entirely believe her. Given her personality, it would be a miracle if she weren't the one causing the trouble. The Beilin Sect was known for adhering to the rules of the martial world, not acting like the hooligans she described.
Ye Fei cupped his hands in a salute. "Gentlemen, I am Bai Yaoyao’s junior brother. Whatever mistake she has made, I hope you can grant us a chance to explain."
The Sect Master looked at Ye Fei with impatience and drew his sword. From behind him, Bai Yaoyao shouted, "Oh, so you want to draw blades? Junior Brother, hurry up and draw yours!"
Ye Fei was speechless. *I am your junior brother, not a bodyguard meant to shield you from an entire army.* He gritted his teeth. "Senior Sister, I am not your bodyguard. Stop shouting."
Bai Yaoyao was dismissive. In her eyes, their master was omnipotent, and the only male disciple he had ever taught could not possibly be mediocre.
"Junior Brother, we're family, aren't we? I believe you can take on every sect in China."
Ye Fei stepped back, looking at her in confusion. "Lady, why were you dragging me around earlier? And making me pretend to be your junior brother?"
Bai Yaoyao gasped. This kid was actually going to abandon her in her time of need and turn on her.
She forced a smile at the Sect Master. "Brother Sect Master, can you give me one minute to discuss this with my junior brother?"
The Sect Master pointed his sword at her. "Don't play any damn tricks on me. I’m taking you now. Move! Young Master Liu is still waiting for you."
Young Master Liu was a man of significant power. To think he could command the Beilin Sect to hunt down a runaway bride—his influence was truly rare in this world.
