Chapter 128: Commander Gu
Ye Fei offered a light smile. "I presume you must be Manager Gu?"
The man’s expression shifted in shock. Who was this? How did he know his name? He wasn't with the company, so how could he know his identity?
"Who the hell are you? Give me your name, and stop playing these stupid games!" The veins in Gu's neck bulged, his face turning a deep, liver-like purple.
Ye Fei crossed his arms over his chest, mimicking Gu's arrogant, domineering posture. "I am the Chairman. If you want your brother to keep his job here, you’d better behave yourself."
While the company's senior executives knew Ye Fei, the rest of the staff were still unaware that a new chairman had arrived.
"Throw him out!" Gu finally lost his temper, roaring at the bodyguards behind him. "Throw him out! Beat him to death!"
The bodyguards yawned, moving with sluggish indifference. Facing a tall, lean man, they felt he posed no threat at all.
"Kid, if you’re smart, you’ll apologize to Manager Gu. Otherwise, you’re in for a world of hurt. Do you really think we can’t crush your bones?"
Ye Fei stood his ground and shook his head calmly. "I don't."
...
Gu spat out bluntly, "Why the hell are you being so polite? Break his arms and legs first! Threats always come with a price."
The bodyguards lunged, throwing punches. As one swung a left hook, Ye Fei caught his hand with ease. A sharp, crisp crack of bone echoed through the air.
"Haha, the kid’s hand is crushed!"
"Aren't you going to beg for mercy? If you beg, Manager Gu might not hold it against you."
Gu looked triumphant, his smile stretching toward his ears. "I knew it. This kid wouldn't last long."
But then, a howl of agony erupted from the bodyguard. Ye Fei remained expressionless.
"Ah—stop! I’m wrong! I’m sorry!"
Ye Fei felt a wave of annoyance. He dropped the bodyguard’s hand and glanced at his own with distaste. "Good grief, why are your hands so sweaty?"
The bodyguard collapsed to the floor, staring at his mangled hand, tears welling in his eyes.
Gu gasped, his bravado vanishing instantly. He quickly took a step back. "Hero, we’ll be taking our leave now!"
***
Ye Fei chuckled to himself and turned toward the Chairman’s office. He pushed the door open and walked straight in, only to find the room occupied by a rather scandalous scene.
"Ah—Manager Gu, who is this?" The woman’s voice was coy and lingering.
Gu Yanzhen looked at Ye Fei in terror, scrambling to pull his clothes together. "Sorry, this isn't..."
Ye Fei raised a hand to cut him off. "Don't explain. I’m not interested. I came here looking for staff from the Information Department, but what exactly are you two doing in the Chairman’s office?"
If it weren't for the sign on the door, Ye Fei would have thought he’d walked into the wrong place.
"Er... I was just here... handling some business," Gu Yanzhen stammered, his face flushed. Ye Fei couldn't help but sigh.
With this company in the hands of these two brothers, it wouldn't take long for it to be lost to the tides of history. These two had to be dealt with.
"I don't need your excuses. I'll say this once: get out. And as for you, Manager Gu, you’re a married man, aren't you? If you don't want me to tell your wife, you’d better keep your head down and behave, or you’ll regret it!"
Gu Yanzhen hurriedly straightened his attire and scrambled out of the room.
The woman looked left and right, appearing awkward. "Should I leave, or... would you like me to stay?"
Ye Fei waved his hand dismissively. "Sorry, I... have a thing about germs." He made up a random excuse, intent on checking the archives. The woman’s figure was enough to cause a nosebleed, but Ye Fei had serious business to attend to and had no time for such entanglements.
"Say that again if you dare!"
A female voice rang out from behind him, startling Ye Fei. He let out a nervous laugh. "Sorry, I didn't mean you, I meant myself... sorry, I’m wrong!" No matter how he explained it, it was a trap, so apologizing was the most practical course of action.
The woman, fuming, dressed herself and stomped toward the door. "Just you wait! I will get my revenge for this!"
He didn't care. He had already apologized, so he turned and ducked into the Chairman's archive room.
The case of the missing children was a major investigation, and it involved several martial arts sects. If the sects were involved, things were going to get complicated.
"I’m speechless. This case actually involves martial arts sects? How the hell am I supposed to keep digging?" Ye Fei muttered to himself in the archives.
***
"It certainly isn't an easy case to investigate."
A woman’s voice sounded behind him, nearly making Ye Fei drop the files. His spiritual energy flared instantly to defend him.
"Who's there?"
He turned to see a young woman standing behind him, beautiful and lithe. Her fair skin glowed in the dim light of the archive room, and her curvaceous frame radiated an undeniable magnetism.
"I am your secretary. My name is Mika. You can call me Xiao Mi."
Her voice was melodic and refreshing. Ye Fei felt his spirits lift and smiled brightly. "Nice to meet you. I am the company’s new Chairman, Ye Fei."
Mika reached out and took the file folder. "What are you investigating? I can help you."
Ye Fei looked at her curiously. "Hearing you just now, I assumed you knew which case I was looking into. So, you don't actually know?"
...
Mika brushed back her hair, looking smug. "I can make a pretty good guess, but I need to confirm it. By the way, you aren't looking into the Northern Forest Sects, are you?"
It seemed this secretary wasn't just stunningly attractive—she was sharp enough to handle investigations too. How did a company like this manage to recruit someone who combined such beauty and intelligence?
Ye Fei leaned against a cabinet, watching her. "This company is mediocre in every way. What were you thinking when you applied here?"
Mika leaned against the opposite cabinet, looking at him earnestly. "The pay is high, and I was offered the position of Chairman’s secretary immediately. I had no reason not to take it!"
That made sense. Only money could lure a beauty like this!
"Alright, let's look into this together. When the case is closed, can I buy you dinner?" Ye Fei lingered on her for a moment before reluctantly turning his attention back to the files.
It wasn't just the Northern Forest Sects involved; there were many others linked to this case. They all had one goal: to find the "Childhood Arts."
But sects had disciples every year, and many people were more than willing to send their children to learn. They had no reason to kidnap them.
