Chapter 2: Who Is Your Wife?
"Hey, beautiful, are you talking to me?"
Ye Fei turned his head, his eyes lighting up in surprise.
He’d been so absorbed in watching his future wife just now that he hadn’t noticed the beauty sitting beside him.
She had jet-black hair and exquisitely delicate features, as finely sculpted as a porcelain doll.
Over a smart little blazer, she wore a long, strappy dress, the pale expanse of her long legs catching the eye.
There was an innocence to her, tinged with a hint of sensuality.
She was in no way inferior to his future wife!
"Who else would I be talking to, the air?" Li Yueyao rolled her eyes.
Ye Fei grumbled inwardly—pretty as she was, her temper left much to be desired.
Still, he grinned wide. "She’s my wife!"
"Your wife?" Li Yueyao paused, then scoffed, "Don’t kid yourself! With your looks, you think you could marry her? That photo—did you pick it up from somewhere?"
"My master gave it to me," Ye Fei replied solemnly. "He arranged this marriage for me and told me to find my wife and marry her."
She snorted. "How hilarious. Your master must have been pulling your leg! Do you even know who I am and where I’m headed right now?"
"And what does that have to do with me?" Ye Fei asked, confused.
"Because the person in that photo is my best friend, Sun Shiyun. She’s at the Forbidden City Grand Hotel in Hangzhou, getting engaged to Young Master Wei of the Gao family, and I’m on my way to her engagement party. Got it?" Li Yueyao looked at him as if he were the punchline of a joke.
"Engagement party?" Ye Fei was momentarily stunned. "No way. My wife is getting engaged to someone else? That doesn’t make sense!"
"Still calling her your wife? Give it a rest!" Li Yueyao said in disgust. "Stop dreaming. Just throw away that photo and stop insulting my friend!"
"Why should I? She’s my wife!" Ye Fei put the photo away. "Since you say she’s getting engaged, take me there and let me see for myself!"
"Take you?" Li Yueyao’s eyes widened. "You really don’t know your own worth, do you? If you’ve got the guts, find it yourself! You must be out of your mind!"
"Hey, beautiful, why are you insulting people?" Ye Fei protested. "No wonder your brow is dark and your face shadowed by misfortune. You’d better stay calm and collected these days, or disaster will surely strike."
"You’re the one courting disaster! Your whole family is!" Li Yueyao was livid.
"Dear passengers, flight KF118 has arrived at its destination. Please remember to take all your belongings as you disembark..."
At that moment, the announcement for landing came over the speakers.
Li Yueyao unfastened her seatbelt and got up to leave, shooting Ye Fei a glare. "With your attitude, you’ll never get married in this lifetime… ah!"
No sooner had she finished speaking than a cup of coffee spilled on her.
A flight attendant rushed over. "I’m so sorry, miss! I’ll bring you a towel right away!"
"See, beautiful? I told you to keep calm, but you wouldn’t listen. Now you know what I meant," Ye Fei said with a half-smile.
"You... you’re a jinx!" Li Yueyao was so furious she could barely breathe. "This is the dress I was supposed to wear to the engagement party... You bastard, go to hell!"
With that, she stormed off the plane in a rage.
Ye Fei followed at a leisurely pace, strolling out of the airport.
He gazed at the city before him, its skyline both familiar and strange.
Years ago, his master had found him in Hangzhou.
He still didn’t know why his parents had abandoned him back then, or where they were now.
Since he was back, he was determined to find the truth.
But there was plenty of time for that—first things first, he needed to find someone.
From what that little spitfire on the plane had said, his future wife was getting engaged today?
It was happening at the Forbidden City Grand Hotel, if he remembered correctly.
He’d go and see for himself what was going on.
The Forbidden City Grand Hotel.
A renowned five-star establishment in Hangzhou.
Tonight, the building was ablaze with lights, festooned with decorations. Luxury cars lined the entrance.
A crimson carpet stretched all the way into the grand hall.
Wine flowed, music soared, and the hall was packed with guests.
Everyone knew that today was the joyous occasion of Miss Sun Shiyun of the Sun family and Young Master Gao Yangwei of the Gao family’s engagement.
No one was more delighted than the members of the Sun family.
The Suns were a third-tier family in Hangzhou, while the Gao family were second-tier.
Once the two families were joined by marriage, the Suns’ future would be boundless.
Old Madam Sun sat beaming at the head table. "Yangwei, today I’m entrusting my precious granddaughter to you. You must never mistreat her!"
"Don’t worry, Grandma," replied a young man in a tailored suit, grinning as he glanced at the woman beside him in her white, floor-length gown. "I adore her far too much to ever do her harm. If anyone’s doing the bullying, it’ll probably be her bullying me!"
This was Sun Shiyun, the Sun family’s eldest daughter.
Yet her face showed little joy—neither happy nor sad, as if she were a bystander.
"Young Master Wei, it’s almost time. Shall we begin?" the banquet manager stepped forward.
"Very well, let’s begin!" Gao Yangwei nodded. "Shiyun, let’s go up."
Sun Shiyun’s brows knitted, her eyes full of resistance. "I don’t want to marry you..."
"Yunyun, it’s a day of celebration—let’s not make a scene," Gao Yangwei said as he forcefully pulled her to the stage, giving her no chance to hesitate.
With no choice, Sun Shiyun stood stiffly beside him, but in her heart, her aversion to the man only deepened.
Soon, the host took the microphone, and his voice rang out across the hall.
"Ladies and gentlemen, as you all know, today is the engagement of Miss Sun and Young Master Gao. Now, let us all witness the love of this new couple and wish them happiness..."
"Wait!"
Suddenly, a discordant voice interrupted the proceedings.
All eyes turned to the newcomer, and the hall erupted in shock.
"Who is this guy? Did he walk into the wrong venue?"
"Look at his clothes—must be some country bumpkin!"
"Causing a scene at an engagement party? Is he tired of living...?"
Who else could it be but Ye Fei?
He strode in boldly, his eyes sweeping over the beauty on stage. "So you’re my wife, Sun Shiyun? You’re even more beautiful and long-legged than in the photo! My old master really had an eye for this!"
"What? Wife?"
"Did I hear that right? He said Sun Shiyun is his wife?"
"This guy must be here just to make trouble, or he’s out of his mind! Sun Shiyun is one of the most beautiful women in Hangzhou—how could she be his wife? What a joke..."
The crowd was in an uproar again!
"You scoundrel, who are you? How dare you cause trouble at my engagement party?" Gao Yangwei’s face darkened, his voice harsh.
"What do you mean your fiancée? She’s my wife! You’re lucky I’m not coming after you, and you’re questioning me?" Ye Fei sneered.
"You—"
"Don’t you ‘you’ me! You’re not even qualified to speak to me. I’m here today for the Sun family!" Ye Fei swept his gaze around. "May I ask which of the Sun elders is present?"
The Sun family was already seething with shock and rage.
Old Madam Sun’s face turned thunderous as she barked, "I am the head of the Sun family! Young man, who on earth are you to come here and ruin our happy occasion? If you don’t give a satisfactory explanation today, the Sun family will not let you off!"
