Demon Night hid within the cave, listening to the curses echoing outside, and sneered to himself. “Go ahead and curse all you want! Just wait until nightfall—hmph!” He then closed his eyes once more, focusing all his energy on healing his wounds. No matter how loudly the others hurled their insults, Demon Night did not open his eyes again.

“Senior Brother, is Demon Night really not here? There hasn’t been a single sound,” one of the disciples questioned.

Song Qi frowned as well. “Could he truly be gone?” Doubt crept into his voice.

“Regardless of whether he’s here or not, we’ve searched all day. We’ve been using our spiritual power non-stop—surely we deserve some rest,” Mu Feng said, looking hopefully at Song Qi.

Song Qi gazed at the four brothers, all of whom were growing weary, and sighed in resignation. “Very well. We’ve worked hard enough for today. Let’s rest here and continue tomorrow. Second Brother, go gather some firewood for the night.”

“No problem! Leave it to me!” the second brother replied enthusiastically, hurrying off. Song Qi shook his head. As dusk settled, the group ceased their search and prepared to rest.

At that moment, Demon Night slowly opened his eyes. He bowed his head in silence, biting his finger in thought. “How does one truly cultivate a Domain? I always feel as if I’m just a step away. Old Cauldron, do you have any advice?”

“The methods I know wouldn’t be of use to you. You’ll have to rely on yourself,” came the reply.

“So even Old Cauldron can’t help. Forget it—I’ll worry about that later. Hmph! They dare to hunt me down? Then they must pay the price!”

Clutching his aching chest, Demon Night approached the mouth of the cave and saw that midnight had fallen. A wicked smile crept onto his face. He had just emerged when, above him, a griffin circled the sky. Demon Night unleashed the suppressive aura of a superior beast, slamming it mercilessly into the griffin.

As if struck by a powerful blow, the griffin plummeted to the earth. Demon Night leapt to the treetops, slew the beast with a single stroke, collected its remains, and vanished into the underbrush.

“Close call—I was nearly exposed by that brute!”

After a brief rest, Demon Night slipped silently through the darkness, moving like a reaper. One by one, the sleeping figures fell. He knew well that mercy toward others at a time like this was cruelty to himself.

With the Bloodcry sword in hand, he crept toward Song Qi and his three companions. The four had purposely camped far from the others, unwilling to risk their identities being exposed.

As Demon Night entered striking range, a shrill ringing broke the silence. He glanced down—a bell, struck by his own leg. Without hesitation, he surged forward, sword flashing.

The bell’s clamor roused Song Qi’s group. Their eyes flew open just in time to see a sword brimming with demonic energy descending upon them. At the very edge of the camp, one of their number collapsed before Song Qi’s eyes.

“Fourth Brother!” Song Qi and the others could only watch in horror as the youngest died before them.

“Despicable wretch! How dare you kill my junior! Prepare to die!” Mu Feng roared, drawing his weapon and charging.

Demon Night laughed softly and darted into the depths of the forest. The others barely had time to react before one figure gave chase into the trees.

“Second Brother, don’t follow!” Song Qi called out, but his words came too late. Watching his brother vanish into the darkness, Song Qi hurried after him.

Song Qi and Mu Feng had barely run far when a terrible scream pierced the night.

“Something’s wrong! Hurry!”

They sprinted ahead and soon spotted a body lying on the ground. Song Qi rushed over, cradled his brother, then pounded the earth in fury before laying him gently down and standing.

“Demon Night, unless I tear you limb from limb, I am no man!”

Another scream rang out, and the two men raced toward the sound. Mu Feng reached the scene first. There, sprawled on the ground, lay another bloodied form. Mu Feng slowed, turned the body over—and saw a twisted smile frozen on the corpse’s lips.

“Third Brother! Get back!” Song Qi shouted.

Mu Feng tried to throw the body aside, but it was too late—the weapon gripped in the dead man’s hand plunged into Mu Feng’s chest. He clutched his wound and fell to his knees, blood bubbling from his lips as he mouthed soundless words to Song Qi.

Demon Night, seeing his opportunity, sprang up with the Bloodcry sword and stepped aside, watching Song Qi intently.

Song Qi rushed to Mu Feng’s side, cradling him gently. Mu Feng’s face was ghostly pale, yet he managed a faint, tragic smile.

“Senior Brother… avenge… me…” he gasped, his voice trailing away.

Biting his lip, Song Qi laid Mu Feng gently on the ground, drew his weapon, and let out a cold laugh.

“Brothers, rest assured. I will send Demon Night to the grave to keep you company.”

He turned, eyes blazing with hatred, and fixed Demon Night with a murderous glare.

“Demon Night! Tonight I will take your head to honor my brothers! Prepare to die!” Song Qi, consumed by vengeance, charged at Demon Night.
