Chapter Fifty-Seven: What Right Does He Have to Be Jealous? Carnival of Explosive Updates! (5/8)
I narrowed my eyes, thinking to myself, after all the trouble I’ve been through, my mouth can barely close—I can’t even give myself a bit of warmth? Although my face betrayed nothing, inwardly I felt a certain delight.
Still, the same thoughts as before lingered—I felt so lowly, just spent half an hour laughing thanks to him, my limbs weak as water. And now? I had voluntarily burrowed into his arms!
Yet I had to admit, the scent on Wangchuan was truly wonderful—a rich, masculine beastly aroma, the kind that would tame any maternal creature, a kingly smell that proclaims supremacy.
Honestly, sleeping beside Wangchuan was warm and secure.
I slept for who knows how many days, and when I awoke, the sun was high in the sky.
Wangchuan was already up, eating in the house.
I noticed he was a delicate eater—not only picky, but he favored beautiful dishes, mostly meat, yet always with a sense of refinement.
Whenever Wangchuan ate, it felt like a candlelit dinner, but he did this every day. Every time I saw him eat, it was always such an elegant affair—small portions, each dish exquisitely crafted, visual delights and culinary pleasures.
Most peculiar was that, despite such lovely meals, he drank only plain water. It was odd—people say men who drink only water are pure and clean, but Wangchuan looked more like he belonged in a red wine play. How did he become a water-drinker?
Upon seeing me awake, Wangchuan glanced at me.
“Awake?”
“Mm!” I nodded, then, eager to please, scampered over and rubbed against his leg. “Master, I’m hungry…”
Wangchuan ignored me on purpose, but I persisted, undeterred by his indifference.
Yesterday, I was nearly starving, and after all that exertion, I was desperate for food.
Wangchuan looked down, gave me a sideways glance, then reached out to pull me onto the table and pushed a small plate toward me.
Relieved, I was glad he didn’t make me eat perched on the edge of the table as before.
Once he gave me the meat, I started devouring it ravenously—I was exhausted, eating with abandon, entirely lacking any feline grace.
Wangchuan looked at me with a bit of disdain and suddenly asked, “Do you know why my cats don’t need to eat?”
“Why?” I answered, my mouth full of beef, cheeks bulging, indistinct.
“Because it ruins their figure.” He gestured at me, hands spreading to indicate a ball.
Seeing his meaning, I felt a bit embarrassed, but continued eating regardless. So what if my figure changed? I was just a cat, not planning to find a cat husband—why should I care?
Wangchuan seemed surprised by my immunity to his words and was left somewhat dumbfounded.
After finishing my meal, I sprawled out on the table, looking at Wangchuan, carefree as ever. “Master, are you planning to let me grow old and die in your house?”
“Why do you say that?”
“Because you keep pulling me out of the cat room, and each time you bully—” I caught his coldening gaze and quickly corrected myself, “No, each time you rescue me from danger, but it’s not over yet. I still carry two lives on my conscience, and there’s Fish Treasure…”
At the thought of Fish Treasure, my heart ached.
Yet ever since Fish Treasure passed, I wasn’t shattered with grief.
Deep inside, I always hoped that if Wangchuan were a bit kinder, maybe he could bring Fish Treasure back to life, just like last time.
As I spoke, I sidled over. “Master, can Fish Treasure live again?”
“Why do you ask?” Wangchuan absentmindedly stroked the fur on my nose, making me squint in pleasure.
“Because…” I hesitated, thinking for a long time before answering, “Because I don’t want Fish Treasure to die.”
“You care a lot, then?” He continued to pet me.
“I do,” I nodded, “Fish Treasure was always so good to me.”
Wangchuan nodded, then lifted me up. “Come, let’s settle it today.”
“Huh?” Being held by Wangchuan, I suddenly felt uneasy and tried to pull back.
“Where do you think you can hide?” Wangchuan smiled at me.
Helplessly, I pursed my lips and settled myself in his embrace.
He stopped and looked down at me. “From now on, you are not to interact with Youluo again. Do you understand?”
I quickly nodded. “I understand!”
Later, he led me to the Hall of Shadows, patted my rear, and pointed to a small hole.
“You count to ten here, then go inside.”
He set me down and went in himself.
I nodded at his instructions, silently counted to ten, and crawled into the hole.
When I emerged, the Hall of Shadows was already filled with people.
Rebecca, Claudia, and many small cats sat together.
Wangchuan glanced at the kittens, then smiled. “Come now, you few—say, do you want to live or die?”
He pointed at several kittens—those who testified for Rebecca, saying they saw me late at night chatting and laughing with a man in black near the rift.
“M-m-master…” The kittens trembled violently.
Wangchuan seemed impatient, waved his hand, and made them vanish.
I blinked, unsure where they’d gone—how could they disappear so suddenly?
The other kittens, terrified as if witnessing something dreadful, reacted only after seeing the fear in their eyes. Only then did I realize—were they killed by Wangchuan? Obliterated?
I backed several steps, only to see Wangchuan wave his hand again.
At that moment, several kittens shrank back, and Wangchuan, eyes narrowed, looked at those nervous, trembling kittens.
“You, speak.”
His lofty tone terrified them to the core.
“It was Rebecca! She threatened us with violence, made us obey her!”
The frightened kitten pointed a paw at Rebecca.
Rebecca, flustered, collapsed to the ground. “Master! I didn’t!”
“You did!” One kitten, terrified, cried, “You locked me in your icy thing for over an hour! I was smoking from the cold! If I hadn’t nearly died, I wouldn’t have listened to you!”
Smoking all over? That scene felt familiar…
I remembered when we first met Han Mingxuan, Xiao Yun came home late after delivering soul embryos, and she returned shrouded in cold, even crying…
Had Xiao Yun suffered Rebecca’s bullying as well?
“Uh—well…” Rebecca was speechless.
Another kitten pointed at Claudia. “It was her too! She was involved, not just me! They said they’d release all the souls to scare Bai Qianqian, but I disagreed. In the end, terrified, I stood at the door as a lookout! I wasn’t involved, truly!”
One by one, the kittens spilled their secrets, and soon none could keep quiet—everything was revealed.
The more they spoke, the worse Rebecca and Claudia looked.
Finally, Wangchuan gazed at the two, stepped down, squatted beside Rebecca, and stroked her.
“You say I spoil you, so why did you act this way?”
“I…” Rebecca trembled, voice choked with tears, “I was just jealous.”
“Just jealous,” Wangchuan repeated, his hand gentle. “What right do you have to be jealous?”
Rebecca was speechless. Wangchuan looked to Claudia. “And you?”
Claudia quivered. “It had nothing to do with me! I only listened to Rebecca! Rebecca—it was all her!”
Watching Claudia retreat in fear, Wangchuan smiled and stood.
“Very well.”
The room fell silent, not a single kitten daring to breathe.
“Rebecca, for past merits, you are demoted to Guardian Cat, but need not remain by my side.”
Rebecca drew a sharp breath, staring as Wangchuan returned to his seat, not sparing her a glance.
“Claudia, exile. The others, punishment as per law.”
At his words, many kittens began to weep, but none dared to beg him.
Only Claudia cried out, “Master! No! Don’t exile me, I don’t want to go to the forest! Kill me! Kill me! Rebecca, save me! Save me!”
Before Wangchuan could reply, the cats managing the cat room hurriedly dragged Claudia away.
Claudia kept shouting, “Fish Treasure was killed by Rebecca! The lives were threatened by Rebecca! She released the souls! She was behind it all! Why punish me and not her? And… and…”
Just as she was about to say something else, a kitten darted out, blood splattering instantly!
Wangchuan narrowed his eyes. “What is the meaning of this?”
“Too many words—afraid she’d hurt you, Master.” The kitten’s voice was icy. “Please punish me, Master.”
“Too easy for you,” Wangchuan replied, his eyes calm. With a wave, a dragon appeared, and Claudia was revived on the floor, gasping in terror.
“Master—I don’t want to go to the forest, please, please…”
Wangchuan sighed and stood. “Let this matter pass—there are things I haven’t fully investigated. But you all know what’s happened. I hope nothing like this happens again, or I’ll show no mercy.”
“Yes, yes—” All the kittens bowed their heads.
Then Wangchuan looked at Fish Treasure, lying beside the hall, and sighed, “Get up now, must I invite you?”
