Chapter Five: This Man Is Remarkable
Both Xiaoyun and I couldn’t help but glance in that direction, but no matter how hard we looked, we couldn’t see what all the fuss was about.
All around us, the air was thick with shrill screams, as if every woman had lost her mind over this man.
“Who’s Han Mingxuan?” a girl, as clueless as I was, looked up and asked.
One woman, her eyes sparkling with stars, replied dreamily, “He… he’s an amazing man…”
That simple evaluation sent the surrounding women back into a flurry of sighs and animated discussion.
As for me, after some thought, I decided not to join the commotion. There were too many people over there. Even if no one noticed us and tossed us out, with that kind of crowd, we could easily get trampled. It simply wasn’t worth it.
So, I nestled quietly into the crevice of the sofa, content to wait for some woman to encounter her heart’s desire and get worked up—then we’d just sneak after her.
And wouldn’t you know it, luck was on our side.
A woman—clearly drunk—staggered by, her whole body flushed with heat, cheeks crimson, lips soft with a dreamy smile.
Trailing her was a man who looked anything but impressive: scrawny, almost monkey-like, with a face full of greedy delight.
The contrast was almost laughable. The woman was a bona fide beauty, oozing that classic Korean glamour; the man, meanwhile, didn’t even belong in the same league.
I edged out from the sofa, motioning to Xiaoyun to follow. Looks didn’t matter—what counted was the vital energy!
The man supported the woman into a private room at the back of the bar. We slipped in just before the door closed.
The man, eager for his prize, was so focused on the drunken beauty in his arms that he failed to notice us at all.
We two little cats quickly buried ourselves in the sofa, grateful for the shadowy corners of bars—so dark, even two full-grown humans could hide, let alone two silent cats!
As expected, the man wasted no time. The moment the door closed, he revealed his true colors—kissing her neck, whispering fevered confessions.
“Shan Xia, Shan Xia, I love you so much…”
The beauty, half-conscious, murmured back, letting him have his way, even smiling in her sleep.
Soon enough, the man tore off his shirt, then hers, and pressed her down onto the sofa, losing himself completely.
The room filled with licentious sounds. The man seemed at his limit, letting out strained grunts.
I glanced at Xiaoyun, signaling her to go first. After all, there were two of us—four fetal souls to collect. Xiaoyun was the more delicate one. She probably couldn’t withstand another punishment for failing, so she should take her share first.
Xiaoyun didn’t hesitate. Time was short. As the man let out a final, guttural groan, she leapt out!
A surge of white essence was devoured in an instant. When it was gone, the man collapsed limply atop the woman.
The poor woman remained oblivious, still lost in her drunken stupor.
I couldn’t help but feel a pang of dislike for this man, but in a place like this, such scenes were probably all too common.
After feasting, Xiaoyun nodded to me that it was time to go. We crept along the wall toward the exit, only to find the door locked!
The man, still basking in post-coital bliss, wasn’t about to let us out. We were at a loss.
If they didn’t leave all night, would we be stuck here until we rotted? Where would we find more fetal souls then?
“Qianqian, what do we do?” Xiaoyun was anxious, eyeing the tall doorknob as if she might jump up and open it herself.
“Let’s try!” I joined her in leaping.
But it wasn’t the height—cats can easily reach such places. Even when we managed to hook the doorknob, our weight wasn’t enough to turn it. We just dangled helplessly from our claws!
I broke into a sweat, looked at Xiaoyun, and gritted my teeth. “Wait here for me!”
With that, I turned and dashed straight for the man, who still hadn’t put his pants on.
Xiaoyun stared at me in astonishment, mouth agape.
Without a word, I leapt onto the sofa and swiped my claws across the scrawny man’s backside—leaving three bloody lines!
“Damn it! Where did this stray cat come from?!”
He jerked up reflexively, howling in pain, clutching his wounded rear and swatting at me.
I nimbly leapt onto a high shelf, out of his reach.
The woman woke with a start at the commotion, looked down to find herself half-naked, and let out a piercing shriek.
“Ahhhhhh!”
The scream was so shrill it nearly shattered my eardrums, making me almost lose my footing.
Just as I’d guessed, this woman, though she came to the bar, would never have chosen that scrawny man. She’d clearly been plied with drink and taken advantage of. Now, realizing what had happened, she screamed her heart out.
The man, seeing her awake, knew he was in trouble. He shot me a venomous glare, pulled up his pants, and bolted out the door, vanishing without a trace.
“Scumbag!” I spat, leaping down and escaping through the open door with Xiaoyun.
Inside, only the sobbing woman remained, her cries echoing through the room.
Alas, the overworked, ever-busy CEOs would hardly be found in a bar like this. All the girls should be careful, lest they fall prey to scoundrels.
I shook my head in sympathy for the beauty.
Our first fetal soul had come quickly—three more to go!
We soon spotted our next targets: another couple, burning with desire, pawing and kissing each other as they stumbled into a private room, barely bothering to shut the door before giving in to passion.
Xiaoyun and I grinned mischievously, slipped inside, and after about twenty minutes, collected the second fetal soul.
Xiaoyun let out a satisfied burp. “We’re so lucky!”
I couldn’t help but laugh, covering my mouth. “Let’s go, quickly, before someone notices.”
Since they’d left the door ajar, we swaggered out without a care.
Now, Xiaoyun had gathered all her fetal souls; only mine remained.
If I could collect two more, I’d complete the assignment tonight and atone for my past mistakes—no more punishments.
Perhaps things had gone too smoothly—both of us, tails high, practically paraded along, almost scattering flower petals in our joy.
But as fate would have it, cats who sneak into places should never be too bold. In a flash, we found ourselves cornered by a group of men.
“Hiss—hiss—” I arched my back, tail lashing in warning.
Xiaoyun did the same, eyes fierce as she glared at the men.
“It’s those two strays! Kill them!” one man shouted, glaring at us with hatred.
No surprise—it was the scrawny man whose backside I’d scratched.
No sooner had he spoken than the group produced nets and sticks, clearly intent on catching us.
We scattered in a frenzy, darting and leaping for our lives.
Xiaoyun leapt onto a man’s shoulder, leaving a set of stylish claw marks on his face.
“Damn it!” the man cursed, spitting in anger. “Kill them! We must!”
Unfortunately, despite their burly appearance, these men lacked agility and were thoroughly outwitted by two agile cats.
They chased us with their sticks down the corridor, sending passing couples scurrying to the walls in terror.
I was a bit frustrated—several of those couples were radiating heat, clearly about to slip into private rooms, but now, thanks to this chaos, my dinner was ruined!
But I was only a cat. Even though I could speak, I didn’t dare utter a human word. If anyone heard me, it wouldn’t just be a beating—I might end up in some animal research facility!
“Qianqian—over here—” a tiny voice called.
I glared—Xiaoyun dared speak human words in front of people!
She seemed to realize her mistake, offering an embarrassed smile before darting into a small hole.
Now I understood—she was trying to tell me about the hole!
But—glancing back, our pursuers were only about ten meters away.
If I dove in, they’d surely follow. So instead, I veered off, sprinting the other way.
My white tail practically streamed behind me, the wind whistling past my ears.
The men, clumsy as they were, soon fell far behind.
Xiaoyun must have made it to safety. Seeing no one around, I finally let myself breathe, panting for breath.
Damn, I was exhausted. Never again would I get myself into such trouble.
After catching my breath, I crept back toward our meeting spot, intending to find Xiaoyun.
But to my surprise, two men were loitering right outside the hole, bent over and catching their breath.
I fumed, itching to chase them off. But before I could, one of them, sharp-eyed, spotted me and lunged.
“There’s one here!”
At his shout, the other man turned, and before I could dart away, more men flanked me from behind.
Damn it… I backed away step by step, hissing in warning, but there was no escaping—they closed in on all sides.
“You little brat, dare to scratch me?” sneered the scrawny man, licking his lips.
His expression made my fur stand on end. Was he planning to eat me?
He advanced, his black shoes clacking ominously against the floor, each step making me tremble.
But I was so focused on him, I didn’t notice someone sneaking up behind me.
In the next instant, someone snatched me up by the tail!
“Meow-ow—!!” I howled in pain.
Last night’s wound hadn’t even healed—who the hell was grabbing my tail again?!
