Chapter Ninety-Three: The Berserker Beastmen Corps
Gao Ning did not think that deeply; he was simply delighted by the forces he had amassed over the past few days.
And after the second reset of the world, Gao Ning unexpectedly discovered a red dot representing the Fang Blade Squad while directing the berserk beast-men to encircle the strange creatures.
They were actually hiding inside the forward base.
Come to think of it, Gao Ning still had not figured out what standard the hostile teams were chosen by.
Three times in a row, the opposing side had used special powers.
Old Gun’s Gaia makeup base was fine; at most it could be called merely a unique imperial relic.
But the combination of the dog and the ghost woman was bizarre as hell, and damn it, they could not even be killed.
The werewolf virus from Fang Blade, and the other man’s earth-burrowing ability—Gao Ning did not even know his name, only that it was Potato—would have caused a sensation in modern society.
And what about his own side?
They had once had Aunt Liu, but who knew she would suddenly die.
Now there were only four left, and even the most senior one, Liang Bing, would not have a chance to draw a power until after this mission.
As for Gao Ning, he still had one mission left.
The other two were even less worth mentioning.
The balance of power between the two sides was seriously skewed, wasn’t it?
If not for his cheat, with Red Alert paratroopers appearing one after another, let alone completing two missions back to back, even the tuxedo mission would have been hard to say.
Could it be that the mysterious train never expected newcomers to complete the first three missions at all?
A transition period?
That should not be right. When had a place like the Main God Space ever been this humane?
He could not make sense of it, but there was definitely something fishy going on.
In any case, with the Red Alert interface in hand, Gao Ning still had the power to fight.
Right now, nothing mattered more than continuing to build strength.
Of course, Fang Blade Squad would not be let off either. The berserk beast-men were tall and imposing, with obvious targets, and aside from their tough hides, they had no long-range attack capability.
Once exposed before the army, they would certainly be mistaken for a new breed of monster and attacked as such.
So until their numbers reached a certain scale and their level rose, Gao Ning did not plan to deploy them.
That’s right—level.
Amid the berserk beast-men’s relentless slaughter and hunting, Gao Ning suddenly discovered that one of them had leveled up.
This was an unexpected delight.
The increase from soldier upgrades was anything but trivial.
Just like the American infantry, once they reached level three they were practically invincible, and after settling in they had firepower on the level of a turret.
Holding a bridge alone was basic operation.
Even more impressive was their recovery speed. As long as a soldier did not die on the spot, once they left the battlefield for ten seconds they could return to full health.
After the berserk beast-man leveled up, its build did not change much, but the color of its skin had grown darker, its health bar had more than doubled, and its recovery speed had increased by at least threefold.
Before, the berserk beast-men could already tear tigers and leopards apart with their bare hands, and they were not afraid to go one-on-one with monsters.
But once the monsters numbered too many, they were easily surrounded and killed.
A level-two berserk beast-man no longer had that concern. Even if the monsters drowned it in numbers, only six or seven at most could actually strike it.
With a berserk beast-man’s health bar and recovery speed, each attack could only shave off a sliver of health. To kill one completely would take at least five minutes.
And in those five minutes, the monster would already have been torn apart by the other berserk beast-men.
With this discovery, Gao Ning was overjoyed.
He immediately split the berserk beast-man force into ten groups, two hundred in each, and sent them in different directions.
Killing monsters was only one part of it. More than anything, Gao Ning wanted to capture a blue monster and see what was so miraculous about its blood that it could be used as a storage point.
He dispatched a squad of terror drones to lie in ambush near the forward barracks, while personally keeping watch on Fang Blade Squad. The moment they left the military camp, he would launch an attack at once.
Whether it was effective or not did not matter; first, he had to get some payback.
Gao Ning was not the sort to take a beating without striking back.
The other side had bizarre abilities and lacked the means to find him, so remote warfare was the best method.
And conveniently, that was exactly what the Red Alert interface excelled at.
This time, however, Gao Ning miscalculated. The female lead actually died very quickly.
After her rebirth, she did not waste time looking for maintenance officers to discuss matters with them, but instead ignored military regulations, directly used her rank privileges to drive out of the camp, and headed straight for the Paris command center.
Gao Ning watched as the yellow light representing the female lead fell into the forward command post, and then time stalled, with the winds and clouds changing once more.
The scar-faced instructor appeared before his eyes again.
Gao Ning thought that anyone qualified to be a protagonist must be stubborn, and that a girl with that sort of temperament, in such a role, would only be even more tenacious.
He had not expected her to be this tenacious.
For an entire day, Gao Ning did nothing else, endlessly experiencing the process of the world’s reset.
For some reason, the female lead’s progress had gone terribly poorly, and then she kept killing herself to reset everything.
Watching the scar-faced man appear before him again and again.
Watching the yellow dot representing the female lead charge out of the barracks and into the forward command post again and again.
In the end, Gao Ning could not even be bothered to care.
Yet during that time, the berserk beast-man army grew rapidly.
Gao Ning did the math: at the beginning, each time the female lead died, the beast-men army could grow by a third through monster-killing; later on, it directly became a full doubling.
As the berserk beast-men frantically racked up troops, the monsters in the Luxembourg region were no longer enough to satisfy them.
The beast-men army split into ten routes and entered Germany and the other countries in the center of Europe.
After thirty rebirths, the army had already spread across all occupied areas.
After fifty, they had swept through every occupied zone once, and the berserk beast-men army had also swelled to an astonishing one hundred thousand.
On the minimap, the green dots were almost linked into a single stretch.
After eighty rebirths, Gao Ning had already concentrated the vast majority of his forces along the national borders, surrounding all the spawn points.
The moment monsters appeared, the berserk beast-men would rush in and fight.
Then, every ten minutes, he would drop a genetic mutation cloud at one of the spawn points, and the troop count would surge again and again.
By the time the female lead had reborn one hundred times, the European region no longer looked like territory occupied by strange creatures, but rather like a berserk beast-man domain.
After one reset, Gao Ning watched the female lead stubbornly charge out of the barracks again, and he could no longer hold back.
If he waited any longer, the berserk beast-man army would no longer be able to remain hidden.
Besides, experiencing a plot once or twice was fine, but reliving it a hundred times was enough to make anyone want to vomit.
Especially that scar-faced instructor—every time Gao Ning heard his voice, he had the urge to put a bullet in him. In any case, everything would reset in a moment. What was the big deal?
He endured the discomfort and waited for the scar-faced man to finish his nonsense.
Then Gao Ning swiftly released the terror drones, already refreshed and ready.
The Red Alert interface was not affected by temporal resets. The paratrooper cooldown kept ticking, and after more than a hundred resets, the paratroopers had been deployed over seventy times. The number of terror drones had already approached two hundred.
Fang Blade Squad had been played with until they were half dead, and they were still struggling in the forward recruit camp, unable no matter what to grow stronger. At first the two of them had still tried, but later they simply gave up.
Useless!
Looking at the dense green dots on the minimap, the force was already mature.
There was no need to wait for the Tom Cruise stand-in to appear—just go straight for it.
A thought flashed through Gao Ning’s mind, and the hundreds of thousands of berserk beast-men stationed across Europe began to gather, then marched toward the French front.
