Chapter 1: The Skeleton Dungeon in the Basement
"Is it really that extreme!"
"No, what happened at home while I was at school!"
He pushed open the door to the basement, which had changed beyond recognition, and was greeted by a cold, narrow corridor.
The door behind him slowly closed.
Before Xiao Yang could marvel at the transformation, at the far end of the corridor, a skeleton clad in armor and wielding a massive axe slowly rose from the ground.
Within its bony skull, two ghostly blue flames flickered; accompanied by discordant creaking sounds, this axe-wielding skeleton fixed its gaze on Xiao Yang, who stood bewildered at the end of the corridor.
Clearly, it had not come to politely greet him.
No! What is happening here! Isn’t this my home? Isn’t this my basement?
Xiao Yang watched as the skeleton strode toward him, emitting a sharp, explosive roar.
He tried to retreat, but the door behind him wouldn’t budge. The skeleton was already dangerously close.
Xiao Yang could hear the whistle of the giant axe slicing through the air.
There was no time for hesitation now. Abandoning any attempt to open the door, he flung himself forward in a desperate dive, as the enormous, rusted axe swept just over his head.
The skeleton’s movements were sluggish; after this attack, its entire body made strange creaking noises, like an old machine lacking oil.
This worked in Xiao Yang’s favor—if not for those sluggish movements, he might have been cleaved in two by the skeleton.
He dashed along the wall, skirting past the monster and avoiding direct combat, but this maneuver left the skeleton blocking the entrance.
His face flushed, his body burning with adrenaline.
No time to hesitate, Xiao Yang scrambled toward the other door at the end of the corridor, crawling and stumbling.
He grabbed the handle as the heavy footsteps behind grew louder—fortunately, the door opened without issue!
He pulled it open, slipped inside, and slammed it shut. Through the small barred window in the rusty iron door, the blue flames in the skeleton’s eye sockets danced.
Xiao Yang gasped for breath, now separated from the axe-wielding skeleton by the closed door. Thankfully, the creature had no intention of breaking in; after a brief stare, it slowly receded.
"Safe at last!"
Just then, as Xiao Yang caught his breath, a notification sounded. A string of characters leapt before his eyes, accompanied by a panel that appeared.

A series of prompts left Xiao Yang sitting silently on the floor. He was familiar with these terms, but together, they baffled him.
As a recent university graduate, after three months of fruitless job hunting, he decided to return home and lie low. While cleaning, instead of a friendly village chief inviting him to start his ranch life, he found himself in a skeleton dungeon as the first player of the Divine Game.
Huh?
Clearly, this turn of events was absurd, yet Xiao Yang had no choice.
He pressed close to the iron door behind him; in the corridor, the towering skeleton wandered silently.
If Xiao Yang wanted to return home, he’d have to defeat this giant.
The brightly lit room had more than one door; on the other side, he spotted another doorway leading to a similarly dim corridor. Surveying the room, he noticed a long table against the wall with some items placed upon it.
He opened his inventory, where a golden scroll lay displayed.
What else could he do but accept all of this?
After a brief pause, Xiao Yang, now gradually coming to terms with reality, decided to claim the Divine Game's novice benefits and awaken his talent first.
Maybe he should name himself first. It sounded odd, but in any game, picking a name is always the first step. Yet this thought changed when he saw the golden scroll.
Better to awaken his talent first!
As a gaming-savvy graduate, Xiao Yang was a classic gambler. He chose to silently activate the golden scroll. A prompt appeared:
[Talent cannot be changed after awakening. Proceed with awakening?]
Without hesitation, he confirmed.
It was draw time—what would Xiao Yang’s talent be?
Under the guidance of the Talent Awakening Scroll, a series of shimmering lights appeared before him, each accompanied by a name.
Gray: Osteoporosis, Hemorrhoid-prone Constitution
White: Agile Mind, Speed Reader, Keyboard Artist
Green, blue, purple—countless lights flashed by. Finally, a streak of gold appeared, slowing its spin, and Xiao Yang’s eyes widened.
Universal Understanding (Gold): Instantly comprehend knowledge, language, writing, and art without appraisal—just as the name suggests, universal understanding!
As the light nearly settled, Xiao Yang held his breath.
Universal Understanding seemed ordinary, but upon thinking it over, its power was remarkable.
Stop! Stop! This one is perfect—let it be!
The golden light wriggled slowly, about to settle—but fate loves a little joke.
At the final second, Universal Understanding vanished from Xiao Yang’s sight.
In its place appeared a dazzling, multicolored light brighter than gold.
In the dim dungeon, Xiao Yang let out a wailing cry.
"Rainbow!"
