Chapter Ninety-Five: Fully Convinced
Wang Li curved the corner of his mouth and, linking the runes in his soul to the great net, sent a message to the figure: “Yun Jingzi, the spatial rift you chose is a little small.”
“What? I’ve been found out!”
Yun Jingzi was startled.
But she quickly calmed herself, admiring Wang Li’s strength in secret as she revealed her form from within the spatial rift.
Since her traces had already been discovered, there was no point in hiding any longer.
“Deacon Wang is indeed formidable, to have seen through this disciple’s disguise. I am deeply impressed.”
“Heh, nothing more than a minor trick. Your special ability is certainly good, but its limitations are quite large. Not every place has a spatial rift that can accommodate you.”
With his hands behind his back, Wang Li’s expression remained calm.
He had not expected a single sentence from him to draw her out. That had saved him quite a bit of trouble.
From the structure of space, he had already understood some of its features. He knew that the fissures between spaces varied in size: the large ones could swallow a whole city, while the small ones could not even fit a strand of hair. So he had seen at once the limits of Yun Jingzi’s ability and pointed them out in one sentence.
Yun Jingzi bowed to Wang Li. “Deacon Wang has a discerning eye. This disciple has made a fool of herself.”
Wang Li gave a slight shake of his head. “You are very good. Your future is bright.”
“Thank you for your generous praise, Deacon Wang. This disciple has lost.”
Since Wang Li had seen through her methods at a glance, there was no need to continue fighting. Yun Jingzi admitted defeat very readily.
But Wang Li did not wish to give up this opportunity for real combat. He smiled. “Loss is not terrible. What is terrible is giving up before one has even faced it.”
“I can tell that your technique is unusual. It should have been created by you according to your own traits.”
This was not something Wang Li had discerned himself, but something Elder Sheng had told him.
“It is indeed as you say. This disciple has a special constitution, and there is no suitable technique within the Pure Yang Temple. So I cultivated blindly. It cannot really be called a self-created art. I fear Deacon Wang will laugh at me.”
By now, Yun Jingzi was utterly convinced by Wang Li, and she admitted it frankly.
Wang Li said, “There is no need for false modesty. You should know that I can fill in missing parts of techniques. Go all out and attack me. Let me see whether I can help you complete this one.”
“Hm?”
Yun Jingzi first froze, then was overjoyed. “Deacon Wang is willing to help this disciple complete my technique?”
“Of course. I won’t let a junior like you work for nothing.”
“Very well, very well. Many thanks, Deacon Wang!”
The matter of her technique had troubled her for a long time. The moment she heard Wang Li was willing to help complete it, she was so excited that she no longer cared why such a powerful senior would want her to help Lingxiao. After cupping her hands and saying, “This disciple will make a move,” she launched her attack.
Wang Li did not dare be careless. His vital energy surged through his body as he went straight to meet Yun Jingzi.
Yun Jingzi’s attacks were extremely fierce. She did not resemble a female cultivator at all; rather, she was much like a cultivator such as Nan Qi, who trained both body and technique. Every move was a ferocious, close-range slam.
Bang!
Wang Li had absolute confidence in his body, and so he met the charge head-on. With a thunderous impact, the two were instantly thrown apart.
A Soul Formation cultivator’s body was indeed formidable, and Yun Jingzi had clearly trained her physique deliberately, but she was still no match for Wang Li’s Primordial Chaos Body, which had already undergone a first stage of development. More importantly, Wang Li was not using spiritual force to protect his body; he was directly drawing on the world’s vital energy. In both physical toughness and raw strength, he held the advantage.
The collision sent Wang Li back half a step, while Yun Jingzi was knocked back over a hundred zhang before she could barely stop.
“Such a terrifying body. Is Deacon Wang a master of body cultivation?”
Yun Jingzi had not held back in that collision; she had used her full strength. Though she had long prepared herself to lose, she had not expected to fall behind after only one strike.
“Again! Show me what you’ve got!”
Wang Li had fought Yun Jingzi in the simulated combat arena more than a hundred times, so naturally he knew she possessed more than this much strength.
“Very well!”
Yun Jingzi also did not want to stop there. Since Wang Li was willing to help complete her technique, she needed to display every aspect of its characteristics.
The two collided once more, but this time Yun Jingzi was not sent flying. Instead, in the midst of the clash, she activated her special ability, using a spatial rift to circle behind Wang Li. Then she emerged and struck out with a palm.
It was as though Wang Li had eyes at the back of his head. He casually sent a palm backward.
Bang!
Their palms met, and Yun Jingzi’s figure once again vanished into the spatial rift.
Yun Jingzi had never expected her trump card to have any effect on Wang Li. She only wanted to demonstrate the traits of her technique, so she did not care whether Wang Li could see how she entered the spatial rift.
As for Wang Li, he felt like smacking his own head.
What a fool he was—he had let her slip into that spatial rift again!
What was he supposed to do now?
He could not hit her!
In his anxiety, even though he knew he could not land a blow, he still threw a punch toward the spatial rift where Yun Jingzi stood.
He had assumed his punch would miss, but to his surprise, his fist easily broke through the barrier of space and struck Yun Jingzi’s curled-up body.
“Aah...”
Yun Jingzi cried out shrilly as her entire body was blasted out of the spatial rift and fell to the ground.
She slapped the earth and used the rebound force to widen the distance between herself and Wang Li.
“Deacon Wang, did you really only use the power of the first level of Soul Formation Realm?”
There was a trace of anger on her face as she clutched her chest and asked, still shaken.
“Yes, this is exactly the strength of my first level of Soul Formation Realm.”
Wang Li could not see the anger beneath her veil and said as though it were only natural, “Why would I need to lie to you?”
I am telling the truth... I really am only at the first level of Soul Formation Realm!
Yet when the truth came from his mouth, it sounded to Yun Jingzi more like a very stiff lie.
“The first level of Soul Formation Realm can break through the barrier of space?”
“Why not?”
Wang Li blinked and asked, “You can do it, so why can’t I?”
Yun Jingzi also froze. “How can that be the same?”
Wang Li was speechless.
“You have special abilities, so why can’t I?”
“You have spatial talent?”
Yun Jingzi asked in delight.
Wang Li nodded.
“That’s wonderful. Then Deacon Wang must also have some kind of constraint upon your soul, yes?”
Seeing how pleased she looked, Wang Li’s face darkened.
The flaw in his soul was a sore spot for him. Hearing someone bring it up again made him very unhappy.
But then he realized he had misunderstood Yun Jingzi.
She probably believed that everyone with spatial talent was just like her.
He shook his head. “Talent and soul constraints are not directly related. Your soul was sealed by someone. It is not a congenital defect.”
“What? Someone sealed my soul?”
Yun Jingzi’s beautiful eyes widened in disbelief.
Wang Li frowned. “You didn’t know? Your master never told you?”
Yun Jingzi nodded. “My teacher said that my soul was naturally incomplete.”
As she said this, it seemed she thought of something and hurriedly shook her head. “My teacher would never lie to me. It must be that my teacher simply failed to see it.”
Wang Li asked, “Who is your master?”
“My master was the former head of the Pure Yang Temple.”
Wang Li blinked. So that means your elder sister should call you junior uncle...
