Chapter Ninety-Four: Deacon Wang Truly Is Formidable
When Wang Li saw Cloud Mirror vanish, the corners of his mouth lifted slightly.
It had to be said that her concealment technique was indeed somewhat ingenious. With cultivation only at the Deity Transformation Realm, she could actually touch the spatial laws that only Earth Immortal experts were supposed to reach, using the fissures born of spatial tremors to hide herself and sever any divine sense locking onto her. Though still crude, it was already a rare skill.
All cultivators knew that space was not a single whole, but a countless mass of fragments large and small, layered one over another like the scales of a pangolin. Bound by the force of powerful laws, they formed a complete world, within which all things beneath certain limits of power could move freely. Only force strong enough to counter the laws themselves could break through the barrier of space.
At the very least, that required an Earth Immortal’s strength, and even then one usually needed special treasures or techniques to do it. Earth Immortal masters could not casually tear space apart at will.
Of course, Wang Li had learned from Old Sheng that once speed reached a certain extreme, it, too, could break past the restraints of spatial law—though that was even harder.
Cloud Mirror was obviously nowhere near the point of shattering spatial barriers. Her ability to merge into the cracks of space was most likely the result of some special talent of her own, which did not mean she was terribly powerful.
Wang Li was still far from grasping spatial laws, so naturally he could not find Cloud Mirror hidden within those fissures, nor could he reach the kind of speed needed to break free of the law’s restraints. But for him, with Old Sheng present, the hidden Cloud Mirror in the folds of space was as conspicuous as lightning splitting a dark night.
Old Sheng instructed, “Even though I can find her position, the spatial cracks block you off. Your attacks won’t reach her. If you want to hit her, you have to force her out.”
Wang Li asked, “How?”
“Use the primordial energy in your body to resonate with the spatial laws of the place where she is, and push her out!”
Wang Li was left speechless.
“Right now, you can try to comprehend the spatial laws. If you catch on all at once, you may even glimpse the path of spatial sorcery. After that, you’ll have one more means of saving your life.”
Wang Li stared at Old Sheng suspiciously for a long while, yet could not read a thing from those profound eyes.
“Why are you still dawdling? Waiting to get beaten?”
Without waiting for a response, Old Sheng slapped Wang Li’s divine sense apart.
A wave of dizziness crashed through Wang Li. Before he could fully recover, he heard Old Sheng’s voice echoing in his sea of consciousness, guiding his soul to perceive the laws of the world.
“Wherever primordial energy comes from, there the laws abide.”
“Boy, remember this well. Everything in the world—whether humans, immortals, demons, or beasts; whether the force of the five elements or the comings and goings of all directions—is merely a different manifestation of energy. Within the laws, it takes form; beyond the laws, it is chaos. Throughout all of history, nothing has existed without chaos as its foundation.”
“The Innate Chaos Body is born with chaos qi. Draw forth the chaos qi within you and merge it into the source from which primordial energy arises. The laws that govern the birth of primordial energy will naturally be thrown into disarray. When law meets chaos, it breaks apart into the various primal sources. Choose one and absorb it into your body, then strike hard at the space around you. You will naturally feel the spatial laws. Remember that feeling; after you do it a few times, you will master it.”
Following Old Sheng’s guidance, Wang Li tried to use the chaos qi within him to touch the chain of laws behind the heavens’ primordial energy.
The chaos qi existed within his soul, an invisible, formless breath. Though it seemed nonexistent, Wang Li could clearly feel the terrifying power contained within it. Merely sensing it with divine sense sent a faint chill through him.
And a touch of dread.
Such a force was lying dormant inside his own body...
Cold sweat soaked Wang Li’s back.
“What are you afraid of? That’s your own power. It won’t blow you up,” Old Sheng reminded him. “As long as you don’t let it pass through your soul, there’s no problem.”
Hearing that, Wang Li became even more careful.
Although it was the first time Wang Li had ever mobilized such overwhelming power, there was not the slightest hint of awkwardness. He easily guided that force to touch the spatial barrier.
Wang Li’s divine sense followed that force and struck the barrier at the same time, only to be rebounded instantly. But the chaos qi pierced straight through the spatial barrier, tearing it into countless small pieces.
Yet the chaos qi did not stop there. It quickly dissolved those fragments into many profound runes formed from strands of blue-green radiance. Then it wrapped those runes and returned to Wang Li’s body.
The chaos qi vanished directly into his flesh, while the blue-green runes gathered in his sea of consciousness.
With a movement of Old Sheng’s plump hand, those runes streamed one after another into Wang Li’s soul.
Suddenly, the space around Wang Li changed completely in his eyes. It was no longer a collection of spatial fragments, but a vast net woven from countless blue-green runes, each one carrying clusters of hazy gray energy.
Within that net, Wang Li saw a figure curled into a ball, like a fetus in the womb of a pregnant woman.
