Chapter 123: The Way She Looks When She Is Serious Is Enchanting
Seeing Yuwensi speaking with an uncharacteristic gravity, Mai Xijun quickly changed the subject: "Weren't you going to have me design that ring buckle for you?"
Caught off guard while lost in his own thoughts, Yuwensi looked a bit awkward. He scratched his head sheepishly and said, "You rest for a moment; I’ll go call the others over."
At that moment, Yuwensi seemed like a young man—sunny, cute, and almost like an innocent child. There was a hint of shyness about him that made Mai Xijun arch an eyebrow. As she watched him walk away, a shadow lingered in her heart, refusing to dissipate.
Yuwensi brought a large group of people to assist Mai Xijun with the ring buckle design—a team he had personally arranged. Watching her work, the corners of his mouth lifted into a beautiful, unconscious arc.
She was a beautiful girl with clean skin and clear eyes. There was a touch of cold elegance about her, yet she also seemed like a child; looking at her appearance alone, she could easily be mistaken for a minor.
She wasn't particularly tall—about 1.65 meters, which wasn't short either. In Yuwensi’s mind, she was multifaceted. Every time he discovered a new trait, he felt a sense of novelty, as if her natural, inherent charm were impossible to ignore. Every time he looked at her, it seeped a little deeper into his marrow, until eventually, it occupied his entire being, while he remained blissfully unaware.
"President, look, it's almost noon. Should we arrange for Miss Mai to have lunch?" Chen Haoming walked up to Yuwensi and asked timidly.
Usually, his routine was to bring breakfast into the office, but today, he had been summoned to the conference room by Yuwensi the moment he arrived. Now it was 12:30 PM. His stomach was growling, but Yuwensi hadn't shown any intention of letting everyone take a break.
"Oh..." Yuwensi pulled back his sleeve to check the time. It was past twelve... truly... he had been too mesmerized. Mai Xijun looked so charming when she was focused.
So, this is where a woman’s sexiness comes from...
Yuwensi clapped his hands to grab everyone’s attention. Once their gazes were on him, he said, "Let's take a break, everyone. I’ll take you all to lunch."
His final glance rested on Mai Xijun. The faint smile on his face left the others stunned. Although Yuwensi didn't visit the office often and rarely interacted with the staff, they all had some understanding of his character; this behavior was utterly baffling.
When Mai Xijun looked up, her eyes met his. This guy was always so brazen and unbridled. She hummed at him, stuck out her tongue in a playful grimace, and turned to follow the crowd out.
Yuwensi stood there for a long moment, unable to process what had just happened. What was that? This impossible girl.
Yet, without realizing it, Yuwensi found himself laughing even more heartily than before.
Chen Haoming had walked a fair distance while muttering to himself, only to turn around and realize there was no one beside him. He had been talking to himself the whole time, and he felt a wave of embarrassment.
"President, aren't you coming?" Chen Haoming asked, looking a bit dull-witted. Yuwensi laughed, strode over to catch up, and unexpectedly threw an arm around Chen Haoming's shoulder. Chen Haoming, caught off guard, was startled. Seeing that Yuwensi didn't seem to notice anything amiss, he smiled, flattered. "The President is in a very good mood today." A rare sight indeed...
"Is that so? Is it that obvious?" Yuwensi asked in return, not denying it.
Chen Haoming faltered in his step. Yuwensi took a reflexive step forward before pulling back. "What, does my good mood make you unhappy?"
"How could I dare!" Chen Haoming immediately offered a fawning smile. "If the President is happy, the whole company is happy, hehe."
He couldn't be on the wrong medication, could he? Or maybe the President won the lottery? That didn't seem likely... Besides, he wouldn't care for a small prize anyway. Chen Haoming wisely decided not to speculate further; otherwise, he would only be asking for trouble.

In Yuwensi’s original plans for the afternoon, he had intended for Mai Xijun to meet the famous model whom Shen Yanlie had helped him hire. However, a call from the police station forced Yuwensi and Mai Xijun to leave the company early and head there instead.
As for why Mai Xijun had agreed to help Yuwensi with this troublesome situation, the reason was simple: Yuwensi had told her, "I've been dragged to the police station because of you. Before I met you, my luck had never been this good, and I had never had such bad fortune." The expression and intensity he wore when he said that had stayed with Mai Xijun for a long time.
The accident had been indirectly caused by her, so naturally, she had to take responsibility. Yet, Yuwensi had shouldered the burden right alongside her. Mai Xijun was deeply touched by this, because at this moment, Shen Yanlie was not around, and she had very few relatives in this city. She would keep his kindness etched in her heart.
At the entrance of the police station, Mai Xijun stepped out of the car, hesitated for a moment, and then grabbed Yuwensi, who was about to head inside: "Whatever the result of this, don't tell him."
Yuwensi didn't even need to think about who "he" was—it was Shen Yanlie. For some reason, hearing this clearly caused a hint of unavoidable bitterness to ripple through his heart. No one had ever done this for him; no one had ever been concerned for him... never.
He had always thought his world and his life lacked nothing. He possessed wealth that millions envied and sat at the helm of a massive company with a glorious history. That half of the empire was his solid backing, and every time he appeared, he was radiant and dazzling.
He always assumed he possessed things that others would not obtain in several lifetimes, let alone incarnations. But now, he suddenly felt that, in reality, he had nothing at all.
His parents had emigrated to Canada years ago. His only sister had married a Frenchman, but her husband had passed away in a car accident several years back. His sister had fallen ill for years from the shock and psychological trauma. Although she had recovered now, no one dared to mention her painful past, and no one dared to bring up matters of the heart to her. Now, his sister was over thirty-five and still single.
Seeing their daughter like this, his parents were heartbroken. They had often urged Yuwensi to sell the company and settle abroad with them, living a life of ease. But he could never bring himself to agree. Forgive him for being arrogant and unbridled all his life; he was never destined to be confined to a single city by anyone.
"Don't worry." Yuwensi smiled, though it looked somewhat forced and weary. Mai Xijun thought she might have misread him, but by the time she tried to see clearly, he had already turned away.
During their ride to the station, Yuwensi had made a call. When Mai Xijun followed him into the lobby, someone was already there to "welcome" them.
The man smiled and approached Yuwensi: "For you to come all this way despite being so busy, it is the dereliction of duty by my subordinates! Please forgive us."
"It's alright, Director Du. I would just like to ask you to delete the file. After all, having such a record is not a good thing, don't you agree?" Yuwensi did not beat around the bush. The man addressed as "Director Du," a refined-looking individual, nodded quickly with a smile: "Yes, yes, this wasn't a major matter to begin with. I will have someone clear the record of this accident immediately."
The man seemed to obey Yuwensi’s every word. He beckoned someone over, whispered a few words in their ear, and the person nodded repeatedly before heading off to handle it.
Little did they know that because Mai Xijun’s dream was to become a great designer, even though this small "stain" was insignificant, Yuwensi didn't want it to remain. To him, even if it had been entered into the archives, it wouldn't have affected him in the slightest.
Mai Xijun followed Yuwensi to meet the parties involved in the accident. Yuwensi spoke up: "I am very sorry for what happened. Three-fifths of this money is for accident compensation, and the rest is for the mental distress and the injuries sustained. If you have any further issues, feel free to bring them up; I will do my best to satisfy you."
"Oh, no, no, how could we dare to take your money! The insurance company has already compensated us a portion. Besides, we also have some responsibility in this matter; if we hadn't hit this young lady, it would have been a matter of life and death. So, we really shouldn't take this money." The truck driver laughed awkwardly, his face full of apology and a hint of timidity as he pushed the money back toward Yuwensi.
Seeing the driver's attitude, Mai Xijun couldn't help but frown. Because of the phone call Yuwensi had made on the way—even though he had only said a few words before hanging up—his way of doing things... Mai Xijun felt a lingering fear.
Yet, the truck driver continued to decline. Watching this, Mai Xijun didn't know what to say, as she couldn't afford such a large sum; it was all coming out of Yuwensi's own pocket.
"Just take it. Just be more careful when driving next time."
Yuwensi persistently pushed the money back toward the driver. Mai Xijun turned to look at Yuwensi, finding it unbelievable. Was she dreaming? Yuwensi was actually being so reasonable and even quite empathetic to the common people. Why had she never noticed before that he could be such a considerate person? He wasn't playing some sinister trick in the background, was he?
