Chapter Thirty-Two: The Golden-Tier Dungeon Boss
“To visit my brother and give him a surprise.”
Hearing the girl's words, the dormitory manager's expression shifted slightly, as if recalling the way this girl often spoke of someone she cherished most—her younger brother.
“He got into Qing University?”
“Yes.”
“In that case, tell me the dorm room number and his name. The proper procedures must still be followed.”
Clearly, the dormitory manager had given up on stopping her and only required the girl to complete a simple registration.
“1212, Ye Yu.”
“All right, sign your name here.”
After taking the pen from the dormitory manager, the girl signed her name under the visitor column and handed the form back.
“You can go in, but don’t wander around aimlessly.”
The dormitory manager shook her head with a wry smile.
“Okay.”
The girl flashed a hand gesture, made a playful face at the manager, and turned to head straight for the elevator in the male students’ dormitory building.
Undeniably, her casual, indifferent manner continued to draw every eye in the vicinity.
“Who is that girl? I didn’t expect the dorm manager, who usually sticks to the rules, to be so accommodating.”
“Who knows? Looks like she came to see someone. Judging by how familiar she and the dorm manager seem, she’s probably not a freshman.”
“She’s so beautiful. I want to ask for her contact info.”
“Forget it. A girl as stunning as her isn’t someone you can approach.”
“I overheard her say she came to see her brother, who’s a freshman this year.”
“Who’s her brother? I have to get on good terms with him.”
Amidst the murmurs, the dormitory manager could only smile helplessly and mutter, “Xiaoxue can stir up a storm wherever she goes. Looks like her brother’s going to be in for a busy time.”
Meanwhile, Ye Yu had no inkling that a girl was on her way to his room. He and his five companions were still immersed in the world of God’s Desolation, engaged in a critical command battle.
By now, the five hundred players had advanced to the latter part of the instance. Already, Ye Yu and the others could feel a wave of biting cold sweeping through. As this frigid air surged in, snowflakes began to drift gently from the sky.
The surroundings slowly transformed into a snow-covered landscape, the faint layer of snow hinting at a chill that words could scarcely describe.
The guild leader, Liang Ye, called out, “We’re close to the final section. It’s better to fall back a little, so be ready to defend at all times in case something unexpected happens.”
As Ye Yu spoke, the group drew together like an impenetrable shield, taking a step back before advancing cautiously.
The ground around them was littered with small monsters, most of them already dead. An unpleasant stench of decay hung in the air, but perhaps due to the cold, it wasn’t as overpowering as it might have been.
Faces turned grim, some guild members even mimed retching to express their disgust at the environment.
Suddenly, a massive figure appeared before them, charging forward with reckless force—so fast that even Ye Yu could only describe it as a complete ambush.
The giant creature was entirely jet-black, its body gleaming with a metallic sheen, resembling a humanoid beast. Faint snowy patterns glimmered on its body, beneath which a strange, bewitching purple light flickered beneath the snowy glow.
The monster barreled toward them like a runaway truck.
In an instant, panic seized many guild members, their formation thrown into chaos. Ye Yu’s expression hardened, an icy glint flickering in his eyes.
The guild’s deputy leader, Zhiren Lengnuan, asked, “What do we do?”
Liang Ye shouted, “Stay calm! Don’t panic!”
With the humanoid monster less than a hundred meters away, Ye Yu snapped to attention. His guqin floated before him, slender fingers plucking the strings, sending beams of violet light shooting out to form two chains that whipped toward the charging beast.
“Gentle String, Still Wind.”
But instead of binding the monster’s body, Ye Yu targeted its feet. He swiftly commanded, “Ranged attackers, aim for the giant’s feet!”
Shaking off their panic, the ranged classes unleashed a barrage at the monster’s legs.
The beast shuddered violently, its rampage abruptly halted, as if time itself had frozen. It crashed heavily to the ground, skidding several meters with a thunderous impact.
Ye Yu and his five companions moved to the front. As they did, Ye Yu’s voice rang out again.
Liang Ye, the guild leader, ordered, “Stay behind me and follow my commands.”
Raising his left hand, he signaled the members to hold their positions and await further instructions.
When the giant beast fell, the resulting gale swept toward the group with devastating force. The lowest-level members were blown away, barely clinging to life with less than ten percent health. Had they not been in the rear, they would have been ejected from the instance entirely.
As the beast’s massive body finally came to a halt, it began to slowly rise.
A guild member known as the Veteran of Love Affairs cursed, “Damn, why is this one such a pain?”
Another member, Joy of Dispute, muttered, “If the leader hadn’t told us to stay in the back, we’d all be out of the instance by now.”
The deputy leader, An Ye, called, “Those at the back—are you all right? Did anyone get kicked from the instance?”
“I’m fine, no problem,” replied Just Say I’m Handsome and I’ll Flip Out.
The members quickly healed up, but the recent events had left them all rattled.
None of them had expected the beast’s fall and the resulting blast to be so devastating.
As the humanoid giant straightened, text floated above its head.
Ancient Snowman of Heaven and Earth Snow Lake.
When its name appeared, everyone paused, noting its level.
Level 40, with a golden emblem before the number.
“Level 40, gold-ranked.”
Liang Ye announced, “Gold-ranked, level 40. That’s at least twice as strong as the final boss in Jiushan Mine. I didn’t expect this guild instance to have a gold-rank boss.”
Each instance with a rank restriction multiplied the base stats several times over.
Bronze rank doubles the stats.
Silver rank triples them.
Gold rank quadruples.
Platinum rank quintuples.
Diamond rank increases them sixfold.
Moreover, the damage they’d just inflicted on the Ancient Snowman had only reduced its health by three percent, and it had a special state: if not attacked for ten seconds, it would regenerate. The pressure this caused was self-evident.
The Ancient Snowman raised its colossal right hand, pointed at the group, then drew its finger across its own neck—a gesture whose meaning was all too clear.
“How do we beat this thing?” the deputy leader, Zhiren Lengnuan, asked.
The situation had clearly surpassed everyone’s expectations. No one had anticipated a gold-rank instance with stats three times higher than what Ye Yu had faced in the Jiushan Mine.
Liang Ye replied, “Don’t be afraid. Its main advantages are a huge health pool and numerous skills, but its AI hasn’t changed. Stick to my plan: target its feet. Melee, focus your attacks on its leg joints. Healers, be ready to restore health at any time.”
Following Liang Ye’s orders, the group’s morale rallied. The ranged classes unleashed a relentless barrage at the Ancient Snowman.
Huang Hong surged forward atop his Abyssal Nightmare, his spear blazing blue as he struck the creature’s leg joints with all his might.
Under Ye Yu’s command, the group’s fighting spirit soared. In addition to the fierce melee assault, Yixiu Dada manipulated his puppet to join the attack.
In an instant, the tide of battle began to shift.
