Volume 1, Chapter 26: The Ruin of Xu Mingyue
Xu Mingyue listened as Qin Tianlang explained how and why she had been released on bail.
She could not understand why the mighty Qin Group was always taking Lin Qiao’s side.
“What Little Uncle means is that if Lin Qiao forgives you, then this matter will be considered settled.”
After all, anyone could see that Xu Mingyue’s scheme had been aimed at Lin Qiao.
Fortunately, Lin Qiao had discovered it in time, and the jewelry shoot had suffered no losses.
Their family had committed such a grave offense that no one connected with them at the time had escaped unscathed. If Xia Junyao had stepped in to help them then, he would inevitably have been dragged into the affair as well.
When they went downstairs, they found that the rain had not stopped. If anything, it seemed even heavier than before. Xia Zhi’an told her to wait in the lobby while he brought the car around, then let her get in.
“It’s nothing serious. The weather has warmed a little lately, and I haven’t been under too much emotional strain. Besides, I took the medicine Old Yuan gave me before coming here. It can temporarily suppress my wheezing and coughing.” Shangguan Yixuan offered the reassurance gently.
The badly decomposed remains had already been treated. Bai Chunxue held the clean white bones in her hands, determining which parts of the body they belonged to and where they ought to be placed. The skeleton was still far from complete. Many of the bones were severely damaged, leaving countless fragments that made reconstruction extremely difficult.
She was not compassionate by nature. She would never show her enemies the same merciful leniency as Chu Zili. Chu Zili firmly believed that good and evil would eventually be repaid, whereas she preferred to settle the score then and there.
“My junior sister has certainly been busy lately—here one moment and gone the next.” Senior Brother Lin Sheng had somehow taken a seat beside her.
“I haven’t gone out in ages. Tomorrow, after we visit Feng Junyi, would you accompany me to the palace?” Song Yuan’s meaning in mentioning a visit to the palace was, of course, perfectly clear to Feng Junyao.
Feng Junyi easily slipped through the Shadow Guards’ watch by way of the secret passage and left Prince Jin’s residence. Mounting his horse, he made straight for the southern estate.
“I understand now. So our enemy isn’t Wei Dingyuan’s elite troops, but the brave and battle-hardened soldiers of the Northern Di.” Xiao Zhan nodded in agreement.
Zhao Meiling turned her head and was just about to persuade Qi Weiwei when she saw her sweet, coquettish expression and ultimately said nothing.
Two sparrows resting in the grass by the roadside were startled awake by the sound of hoofbeats. Flapping their wings, they skimmed over the passengers’ heads and disappeared into another patch of grass.
Xiyun swallowed the mouthful of egg-fried rice. Though she was unwilling to admit it, she had to concede that, despite its terrible appearance, it actually tasted quite good. A faint blush crossed her face. She turned away and looked elsewhere awkwardly, refusing to meet the eager, expectant gaze of the Great Immortal Qianyu.
“What do you understand at all? If I could let go, I would never have remained here for a thousand years. I think of you day and night. Come, smell it—the air here is filled with your presence.” An intoxicated expression appeared on the Flower Immortal’s face.
Shen Ruoyu waved his hands, his face dark with exasperation. Who, exactly, had abducted whom? He had even been forced to clean the filthy Immortal Palace, only to be threatened afterward. He was truly the wronged party here.
“Hey!” The Dark-Gold Giant Ape reached out and seized the Sword of the Holy Hall, then began brandishing it with overwhelming majesty.
At the very moment Zheng Zhong solemnly summoned the Swiftcloud Wings, outside Luoyao’s secluded cultivation chamber in Mount Moyun, eight cultivators in different attire formed a circle. Each held a one-meter-long triangular flag of ocher earth, continuously pouring their entire reserves of spiritual power into it.
“Next comes the debut performance of my God of War! Everyone watching, pay close attention—the God of War is transforming!” Zhang Shaofei shouted excitedly.
If a true master of Go had been present, a single glance at the position on the board would have been enough to make him regard the masked man with new respect.
As that streak of white light was about to strike him, Yu Yan was terrified. Yet no matter how he struggled, he remained fixed in midair, unable to move even an inch.
“This is the Xuanqian Six-Star Teleportation Array. Fellow Daoist You will first lead the disciples of the Taoyuan Sect up. Then Fellow Daoist Yun, Fellow Daoist Cimu, and Fellow Daoist Chen will each lead the retainers and disciples of their respective families up. Finally, Fairy Xiao will take the last four unaffiliated cultivators with her.”
