Chapter 110: Betrayal of the Heart
The wolf pack was driven away.
Song Weimin did not let his guard down. He divided the uninjured into several small patrol teams to scour the area separately.
The injured were taken to the infirmary for treatment.
Tang Banxia was busy as well.
Amidst the chaos, she managed to piece together the full story of the wolf pack’s descent from the mountain.
Perhaps it was paranoia, but suddenly she recalled Song Qing’s expression on the day of the squad leader selection.
Could it be that Song Qing knew the wolves would come down today?
Since she was reborn, it wouldn’t be surprising if she knew.
Yet, a chill ran down Tang Banxia’s spine. If Song Qing knew, why didn’t she warn the village?
This heroine’s heart was unbearably cold!
Even if she couldn’t reveal her time-travel secret, a subtle heads-up would have been possible.
This was a medium-sized wolf pack. If it weren’t for Zhaodi’s accidental discovery, one could only imagine how many would have died with the village unprepared.
These were all Song Qing’s own villagers. Even if there were minor conflicts, death was too harsh a penalty.
At this moment, Tang Banxia’s disgust for this reborn heroine reached its peak.
Self-interest is not terrible; what’s terrible is harming others without benefiting oneself.
As she deftly treated wounds and stopped bleeding, her mind wandered.
But for some reason, she felt she had forgotten something.
What was it?
After treating the last injured person, she finally asked, “Where did the wolves come down the mountain?”
“Near the haunted house,” Hu Huasheng answered.
Haunted house?
Damn it!
This was bad!
Song Qing’s mother-in-law and Hu Sihai!!
Tang Banxia hurriedly stood up and dashed to the Song family’s courtyard. “Has Song Third’s wife come back yet?”
Old Madam Song looked puzzled at Tang Banxia’s urgency. “You mean Third’s wife? Not yet. Probably off chatting at someone’s house.”
Since the family split, Song Third’s wife had stopped working altogether. Old Madam Song had grown cold toward that family and no longer cared.
Tang Banxia’s expression shifted. Without explanation, she rushed out again.
She found Song Weimin, who was going door to door verifying the population. “Squad leader, it’s bad. There are still people in the haunted house.”
Song Weimin’s expression changed. “Who?”
Tang Banxia hesitated, then whispered two names.
Upon hearing them, Song Weimin’s expression darkened. He looked at Tang Banxia for confirmation; she nodded helplessly.
Song Weimin cursed under his breath, summoned four or five men, and headed back up the mountain.
Tang Banxia stood where she was, her face shifting through various emotions before settling on a shade of green.
Damn it, just talking about this made her mouth sour.
She wondered if those two, once they found out, would hate her or thank her.
Still, she was eager to see Song Qing’s reaction.
Though Song Qing had no obligation to warn them, Tang Banxia had no obligation to like her either.
She was very much looking forward to it.
After his patrol, Wen Mubai ran over excitedly. “Honey, are you okay? You weren’t scared, right?”
Tang Banxia shook her head. “I was at Aunt Song’s when it happened. Nothing else.”
Wen Mubai sighed in relief. “That’s good.”
Just then, Geng Zhengfei and Xu Sheng came running one after the other. Seeing Tang Banxia unharmed, their eyes met briefly before they passed by.
Tang Banxia gave a barely perceptible nod and stood still, waiting for the show to start.
Soon enough, the show began.
Song Weimin and his group carried down two bloodied humanoid creatures from the mountain.
Seeing Tang Banxia, they said, “Quick, Tang Zhiqing, we need your help.”
With lives at stake, Tang Banxia abandoned any curiosity. “Carry them to the infirmary carefully. Don’t jostle them.”
Then she told Wen Mubai, “Go home and get my golden needles and some hemostatic medicine.”
Wen Mubai hurried off without delay.
After giving instructions, Tang Banxia followed the group to the infirmary.
The place was already packed with villagers who had heard the news. It took her some effort to get inside.
Once inside, the sharp smell of blood stunned her momentarily. She looked over to see two humanoid figures lying on wooden beds.
She was about to ask why they weren’t separated, but as she approached, she fell silent.
It wasn’t that they hadn’t been separated—they were still clinging to each other, and no one dared to move them recklessly.
She thought for a moment. “Separate them first.”
How else could she treat them?
Song Weimin immediately ordered people to separate them and lay them down individually.
Only then did everyone get a clear look at their faces:
“Song Third’s wife?”
“Hu Sihai?”
Seeing their condition, no further description was needed to understand the situation.
Everyone exchanged a knowing glance.
Some busybodies had even informed the Song family, including Song Third himself.
But Tang Banxia had no time to gawk. Both were severely injured.
Hu Sihai’s back was pierced by several wounds; Song Third’s wife’s arm was so badly bitten it was unrecognizable. More seriously, she had a wound on her abdomen, and neither of them had any uninjured flesh left on their legs.
Tang Banxia hissed. This was a tough case. “They need to be sent to the hospital.”
“I can do some basic treatment, but my tools aren’t complete. They must be rushed to a hospital.”
She knelt down and swiftly administered acupuncture to stop the bleeding.
This alone took a great deal of her concentration. Then she used soft cotton cloth to clean the blood around the wounds and sprinkled on hemostatic and anti-inflammatory powder.
By the time she finished, the moon hung high in the sky.
Although she had stopped the bleeding, their breathing was faint. “Get them to the hospital quickly.”
Having lost so much blood, their bodies couldn’t regenerate blood fast enough. They needed transfusions urgently.
“The donkey cart is here,” Hu Jiaguo said, waiting outside.
Song Weimin immediately called a few men to lift the two onto the cart.
Tang Banxia wanted to suggest they cover the pair with clothes first, but before she could speak, Song Weimin casually threw a burlap sack over them. “Tang Zhiqing?”
“Coming.”
Well, the embarrassment wasn’t hers.
After instructing Wen Mubai, she climbed onto the cart.
Along the way, Hu Sihai and Song Third’s wife’s breathing stopped several times, only barely saved by Tang Banxia’s acupuncture.
Finally, they arrived at the commune hospital. But when the hospital heard about the need for blood transfusions, they shook their heads.
“We don’t do transfusions here.”
It was a small hospital, lacking advanced transfusion equipment.
They had no choice but to rush to the county hospital.
Fortunately, the county hospital accepted them, though their breathing was almost gone by then.
They immediately began emergency treatment while Tang Banxia and Hu Jiaguo waited outside.
Soon, Song Weimin arrived, breathless. “How are they?”
“Still unclear,” Tang Banxia shook her head. “They’re still in surgery.”
But she guessed the odds were slim.
Having lost so much blood, survival was difficult.
As she shook her head, she thought she saw a familiar face. Racking her memory, she recognized it.
It was the staff member from the procurement station where she sold medicinal herbs.
What was she doing here?
Her curiosity lasted only a moment. The most important thing now was the two people in the operating room.
Time ticked by, but no one emerged from the emergency room...
Suddenly, hurried footsteps sounded. Turning her head, she saw a pale-faced Song Third and a dazed Song Qing approaching...
