Chapter 6: Interception

Lan Shiyun's beautiful eyes were filled with astonishment as she stared at Lin Ye in disbelief.
"You’re a martial artist?!"
Lin Ye was momentarily taken aback and countered, "What exactly is a martial artist?"
"I once heard from my grandfather that there are people in this world who cultivate their martial skills to the pinnacle, granting them extraordinary powers. Though many practice martial arts, true martial artists are as rare as phoenix feathers and unicorn horns. I thought my grandfather was just teasing me, but you..."
So that’s how it was.
Lin Ye had been training on Qingdao Mountain since childhood and knew very little about the world outside, nor did he know if he could be considered a martial artist. "You may consider me one."
Before Lan Shiyun could fully process this, a strange whooshing sound suddenly pierced the air. Both turned toward the source and saw a rocket flying swiftly toward them, trailing flames!
"Duck!" Lan Shiyun shouted in panic.
But Lin Ye showed no sign of dodging; instead, he raised his hand impatiently, and that invisible force descended once more.
In the next moment, the rocket bizarrely halted midair some ten meters away from them!
"Is this over yet?"
With a thought, Lin Ye caused the rocket to reverse course and fly back toward where it came from!
Boom!
The deafening explosion shook the entire road, and amid the towering flames, a figure was blasted into the sky.
Turning to the still-shaken Lan Shiyun, Lin Ye smiled faintly. "All taken care of."
"These people are well-equipped—not only with automatic rifles but even rocket launchers."
"Miss Lan, whoever wants you dead is really serious about it."
Lan Shiyun stared at Lin Ye as if seeing a ghost; his display of power was too incredible—controlling a rocket launcher like that.
Is this for real or some movie special effect?
Magneto?!
Even the usually aloof and icy female CEO found it hard to remain calm in such a scene.
Regaining her composure, Lan Shiyun quickly pondered and named a person.
"Sun Jin!"
"Who is Sun Jin?"
"He’s a shareholder of the group and the leading advocate for cooperation with Jianye Group."
Lin Ye said calmly, "You rejected his proposal, and he sent people to kill you? Is the grudge that deep?"
"You don’t understand," Lan Shiyun shook her head. "Jianye Group secretly supports Sun Jin. Once they cooperate, Sun Jin will gradually take control of every department in the group. Eventually, the entire Lan Corporation will fall into his hands."

Lin Ye smiled indifferently; he had no interest in business matters. If it weren’t for chasing women, who would bother being a worker?
He hailed another car and drove Lan Shiyun safely back to the Lan family estate.
Though the assassins had come fiercely, with Lin Ye there, they escaped unharmed.
For the first time, Lan Shiyun felt curious about a man—especially one she despised most.
At first, it was partly to save face for Qiu Wanqing; now, it was more about recognizing Lin Ye’s strength.
Having a martial artist as her bodyguard was an extravagance beyond compare!
The Lan estate was located in the Cultural City suburb on the west side of Changjing.
This area had been zoned for villas and was a well-known affluent district in Changjing.
Lan Corporation had purchased five villas here, enclosing them a second time to form a proper estate.
"Miss Lan, should I come in with you?"
"You’re my personal bodyguard, of course you’re staying with me." Bodyguards generally stay with their charge 24/7, so naturally, they live together.
"Welcome home, Miss!"
As they reached the door, a group of servants immediately came out to greet them—all women.
It seemed Lan Shiyun’s aversion to men was indeed severe.
Lin Ye paid no mind and followed her into the villa.
The servants looked as if they had seen a ghost when their young lady brought a man home.
In all these years, when had Lan Shiyun ever been this close to a man?
Today, she unexpectedly brought one home?!
Inside, a spacious living room came into view, lavishly decorated with top-brand furniture and even a fur carpet. Compared to outside, it was like a palace.
This was truly the home of the wealthy!
"Shiyun, you’re finally back!"
There were already many people in the living room—men, women, old and young. Seeing Lan Shiyun return, a middle-aged woman smiled warmly and pulled her to sit on the sofa.
Lin Ye, however, was completely ignored.
"Dad, Mom, Second Uncle, Second Aunt, is there something going on?"
Normally, the family never gathered so completely; today’s unusual assembly must mean something.
"Congratulations, dear niece!" said the middle-aged man called Second Uncle with a cheerful smile.

"Yes, our Shiyun is about to soar and become a phoenix! From now on, you’ll have to take good care of the family!" The middle-aged woman beside Second Uncle smiled as well.
"What are you talking about? I don’t understand," Lan Shiyun was puzzled.
These relatives usually dealt in sarcasm and cold mockery—what was going on today?
"Shiyun, you’ve caught the eye of the prince from the Wang family in the provincial capital! Look!" Lan Shiyun’s mother, Shi Qin, pointed to a pile of various gifts nearby, beaming. "These are all betrothal presents sent by the Wang family!"
Lan Shiyun frowned. "When did I ever agree to marry him?"
The atmosphere instantly chilled.
Marriage was a serious matter, not something to be trifled with.
She hadn’t even met this so-called Wang prince, and now they were forcing her to marry him?!
Lan Shiyun said coldly, "I refuse!"
The expressions on the Lan family members’ faces instantly changed.
Smiles froze into stony looks.
"Shiyun, don’t be childish. Your grandmother already agreed to the Wang family. If you throw a tantrum now, aren’t you insulting them?" Shi Qin frowned.
"If grandmother agreed, then let grandmother marry him!" Lan Shiyun’s voice was icy.
"How dare you!"
A deep, vigorous voice suddenly boomed. Lan Shiyun’s father, Lan Yuandong, who had remained silent until now, looked at his daughter angrily.
"Shiyun, as a member of the Lan family, you should always consider the family’s interests."
"We’re informing you, not asking for your opinion!"
Faced with his solemn tone, Lan Shiyun showed no sign of backing down.
"My marriage is my own business. I don’t need any elders to meddle!"
Lan Yuandong was infuriated by his daughter’s defiance and snapped, "Not today. Guards! Tie her up!"
At his command, two burly female bodyguards hurried in, looking troubled as they faced Lan Shiyun.
"Miss, please don’t put us in a difficult position."
Lan Shiyun’s brows tightened. Having just escaped death, she hadn’t even had time to speak when they were forcing her into marriage. Her frustration grew, ready to erupt—only to be interrupted by Lin Ye, who had been ignored until now.
"What a cliché melodrama."
"Can’t you hear she doesn’t want to marry?!"
