Shen Zhi slowly sat up, her gaze vacant as she stared at the empty room. It was already two in the morning. He Yunshen—he actually went to see Zhou Qin in the middle of the night. At this moment, all her trust shattered completely, and her heart turned icy cold.

At the breakfast table the next morning, there was still the neat note and warm, lovingly prepared breakfast—both in He Yunshen’s handwriting. Whenever he was home, he never let anyone else cook for Shen Zhi; he always did it himself.

“Eat well.”

Looking at the brief words on the note, Shen Zhi gave a bitter smile. What once felt like moments of happiness now seemed utterly ironic. She picked up the breakfast and poured it straight into the trash before calmly heading to work.

As soon as she arrived at the company, Lin Su immediately blocked her way.

“Director Shen!”

Shen Zhi watched her hesitate, her eyes involuntarily glancing toward He Yunshen’s office.

“What is it, Lin Su?”

“Well, Lawyer Zhang is on leave today!”

Shen Zhi smiled slightly and nodded. “Okay, I understand.”

It wasn’t unusual for Lawyer Zhang to take leave; his wife was about to give birth to their second child soon, so it was normal.

“Director Shen…”

Lin Su, seeing Shen Zhi heading toward He Yunshen’s office, anxiously called out to her again.

“Is there something else?”

“Well, Lawyer Zhang said he needs to take half a month off... and he needs you to sign the leave form.”

Lin Su really didn’t know what excuse to make to stop her from going to the general manager’s office. Because Zhou Qin had been inside for over half an hour and hadn’t come out yet.

“I know. He informed me in advance. Just put the leave form on my desk when you’re done.”

Shen Zhi smiled and turned to leave, heading straight to He Yunshen’s office.

“Aiya, don’t move!”

Just as Shen Zhi reached the door, she heard a coquettish voice and laughter from inside the office. After a brief hesitation, she raised her hand and knocked.

“Come in!”

The moment she pushed the door open, she was shocked by the scene before her!

“I told you not to move…”

There, Zhou Qin was standing on tiptoe, closely adjusting He Yunshen’s tie with an intimacy that was undeniable.

“Wife, you’re here!”

Seeing Shen Zhi, He Yunshen calmly smiled and raised his hand in greeting.

Zhou Qin stepped back to the desk, putting on a proper demeanor, her face wearing the same fake smile as always.

She showed no intention of leaving, as if she were the true lady of the house.

“Come, wife, let me formally introduce you. This is my sister Zhou Qin, the one I mentioned before. She’s temporarily serving as my assistant.”

“Qin Qin, why haven’t you called your sister-in-law yet?”

He Yunshen introduced them nonchalantly, his tone filled with affection whenever he glanced at Zhou Qin.

“Sister-in-law, we already met yesterday!”

Zhou Qin forced a sweet but slightly aggressive smile at Shen Zhi.

Shen Zhi said nothing.

“Qin Qin just returned to the country and is unfamiliar with many things. You’ll need to guide her at the company.”

Qin Qin?

Is that how he always referred to her?

Shen Zhi instinctively glanced at Zhou Qin’s wrist. She quickly pulled her hand back into her sleeve and shyly looked at He Yunshen.

Watching their flirtatious exchange, Shen Zhi suddenly felt a storm churn in her stomach and rushed to the restroom.

He Yunshen and Zhou Qin followed her.

Colleagues in the office saw this and began whispering among themselves.

“What’s wrong with Director Shen?”

“Oh my god, what kind of battlefield is this? Our Lawyer Shen is about to explode!”

“Poor Director Shen…”

Before He Yunshen could catch up to the women’s restroom, Zhou Qin had already rushed inside.

Outside the restroom, he waited anxiously but tried hard to appear calm.

Soon, Zhou Qin supported Shen Zhi as they came out.

“Wife, how are you? Are you feeling unwell anywhere?”

He Yunshen hurriedly reached out to steady her arm but was pushed away instinctively by Shen Zhi.

“I’m fine.”

Outside the restroom, the water cooler area was already crowded with people, all glancing around busily.

Seeing them come out, people gradually dispersed.

“Maybe you ate something bad; your stomach feels upset.”

Not wanting to lose face, Shen Zhi covered her stomach and returned to her office.

“Are you sure you don’t want to go to the hospital?”

Shen Zhi lowered her head, not looking at him.

“Alright then, if you feel unwell, ask Lin Su to accompany you to the hospital. I have a meeting this afternoon.”

Saying this, He Yunshen turned to discuss meeting details with Zhou Qin and left the office, as if the person behind him had no relation to him.

As the office door closed, Shen Zhi finally broke down, tears streaming down her face.

She suddenly didn’t understand—did He Yunshen really only stay with her out of obligation?

Were all those past moments of tenderness and care just a lie?

She recalled on their wedding day when she asked He Yunshen,

“Do you really love me?”

“No, why would I marry you otherwise?”

His words still echoed in her ears.

It seemed only now did she realize He Yunshen had never truly confessed to her; she had always been the one following his lead.

As long as he returned her smile, she felt content.

Originally, she had intended to understand He Yunshen’s care for Zhou Qin and try to get along with her.

But now, she felt it was unnecessary.

“Sister-in-law, are you alright?”

Suddenly, Zhou Qin’s voice sounded behind her—cold and full of provocation.

Shen Zhi was stunned but quickly regained her composure.

“Do you need something else?”

“Yunshen—oh no, General Manager He was worried and asked me to check on you,” Zhou Qin’s tone shifted from familiar to distant and lonely as she walked to the water cooler to fill a cup.

“Sister-in-law, don’t misunderstand. I was just helping General Manager He fix his tie. He’s always like this—so careless…”

“Always? Do you often help him with his tie?”

Shen Zhi’s sudden pressing question flustered Zhou Qin, who quickly explained,

“No, no, sister-in-law, you misunderstood. I meant he’s always this careless.”

“Careless? I think he’s quite attentive toward you.”

Now irritated, Shen Zhi’s words were laced with barbs. She also noticed that the bracelet on Zhou Qin’s wrist was gone— the one matching the sapphire blue diamond necklace He Yunshen had given her.

“Sister-in-law, if you mind, I can… I can leave…”

Zhou Qin’s voice choked up suddenly, lowering her head to look pitiful.

“If I had known my coming would upset you, I wouldn’t have agreed to come back as his assistant. I’m sorry! And about that bracelet, I didn’t know you liked it…”

Before Shen Zhi could react, Zhou Qin brought the cup of water to her side.

“Ah!”

With a sharp scream, He Yunshen was the first to rush into the office. Outside the door, several heads quickly gathered.

He Yunshen anxiously held Zhou Qin’s hands, sternly scolding, “Shen Zhi, what have you done?”

Shen Zhi froze, words stuck in her throat before she could explain, as Zhou Qin began to cry out her grievance.

“Brother, don’t blame sister-in-law. I was careless myself. I just wanted to pour her a cup of warm water…”

“Brother?”

“Sister-in-law?”

“What’s going on? The new assistant is the general manager’s sister? Since when did he have a sister?”

Whispers spread among the crowd.

He Yunshen cut off Zhou Qin’s “explanation,” glaring fiercely at Shen Zhi.

This was a side of He Yunshen she had never seen before—terrifying when angry.

“I asked her to check on you because I was worried. If you have any grievances, take them out on me. Qin Qin just arrived at the company; I don’t want you to have any bad feelings toward her!”

“Sorry, brother, it’s all my fault. On my first day, I upset sister-in-law. I shouldn’t have come back. I should return abroad…”

Before Zhou Qin finished speaking, she covered her mouth and ran out in distress.

“If anything happens to her, I will never forgive you!”

Watching the two of them leave, the crowd dispersed. Shen Zhi finally found her voice.

“I didn’t do anything.”

Suddenly, her mind went blank. The perfect husband in everyone’s eyes was fierce toward her in front of the entire company and openly chasing another woman.

Concern only brought chaos.

He hadn’t even noticed that the water in Zhou Qin’s cup was lukewarm, not hot enough to burn.

At this moment, her heart felt as if something had gripped it tightly, making it hard to breathe.

Suddenly, a sharp pain swept through her lower abdomen, spreading throughout her body, and she collapsed onto the desk, sweating profusely.

“Director Shen, are you okay?”

Lin Su gently pushed the door open, holding a stack of documents. She couldn’t bear to leave Shen Zhi alone.

She saw Shen Zhi in great pain and panic, becoming flustered.

“Sister Shen Zhi, where do you feel unwell?”

“My stomach... it hurts…”

Soon, Shen Zhi was rushed to the hospital.

But He Yunshen’s phone went straight to voicemail. Lin Su had no choice but to leave a voice message, “General Manager He, Director Shen has fainted!”
