Gaoyang did not answer and turned away from the crowd. Back at their quarters, he looked at Lin Xue and said quietly, “We need to act quickly.” Lin Xue nodded resolutely, her eyes filled with determination. “No matter what they’re planning, we can’t let them succeed.”

As night fell, the New Order Alliance’s stronghold was shrouded in silence. Yet, this quiet did not last long.

A deep, harsh growl echoed from afar, followed by heavy, rapid footsteps.

Lin Xue stood beside Gaoyang, nervously staring into the darkness outside the stronghold. “This doesn’t sound good,” she whispered, her hand clutching a dagger tightly.

Gaoyang stood atop the defensive wall, his gaze cold and sharp. In his hand was a baseball bat, crackling faintly with lightning that lent a faint glow to the pitch-black night.

“They’re here,” he said in a low voice.

Not far away, a dense swarm of figures was advancing toward the stronghold. They were zombies—yet far more terrifying than ordinary ones. Their movements were coordinated, their eyes glowing green, clearly mutated through some form of evolution.

Zhou Cheng also stood on the wall, his face ashen. His men busied themselves setting up weapons, but their panic betrayed their lack of experience.

“What’s going on? Why are there so many zombies?” Lin Xue couldn’t help but ask.

“It’s the Mother Nest,” Gaoyang said coldly. “These zombies are clearly being controlled.”

Zhou Cheng shot Gaoyang a glare and gritted his teeth. “Enough talk. Prepare to fight!”

Gaoyang said nothing in response. He raised his baseball bat, and lightning gathered into a dazzling orb at its tip.

Boom!

He swung the bat, sending a bolt of lightning surging into the zombie horde, instantly clearing a swath of the area.

Yet this did not stop their advance. The zombies showed no fear; if anything, they grew more frenzied.

Bang! Bang!

The alliance’s weapons roared to life, bullets raining down on the undead. Zhou Cheng’s men fought desperately, but overwhelmed by numbers, their defenses quickly crumbled.

“Retreat! Everyone fall back to the center!” Zhou Cheng shouted.

Chaos reigned inside the camp as survivors scattered in terror, seeking safety.

Gaoyang grabbed Lin Xue’s hand and leapt down from the wall. “Don’t run off with them, stay with me,” he said calmly.

“What are you planning?” she asked.

“Find the alliance’s data core and secure the vital information. This place can’t be held,” Gaoyang replied coldly.

Lin Xue nodded and followed Gaoyang through the turmoil. They swiftly located the technician’s room, where the password boxes and decoding devices were stored.

“What are you doing?” Zhou Cheng’s voice came from behind.

Gaoyang glanced back coolly. “You should know this place is lost. Better to save the data than have everyone perish. We need to prepare for the future.”

Zhou Cheng’s expression darkened, his fists clenched in frustration. Though unwilling to admit defeat, reality left him no choice. He gritted his teeth, “Hurry up!”

Lin Xue quickly packed the password box and decoding equipment, while Gaoyang stood guard at the door, repelling zombies with crackling lightning.

“Let’s go!” Gaoyang shouted.

The three dashed out of the technician’s room, racing toward the camp’s exit. Outside, the battle was out of control. Survivors of the alliance were being overwhelmed, falling back under relentless zombie assaults.

Many collapsed in pools of blood, their bodies turning into new carriers of the infection.

“Gaoyang, there’s a breach on that side!” Lin Xue pointed to one flank of the camp.

Gaoyang nodded and led her and Zhou Cheng toward the opening.

But just as they neared escape, a colossal zombie lunged from the darkness.

Three times the size of normal zombies, its body was armored with steel-like plating. It unleashed a deafening roar and swung its massive arm toward them.

“Dodge!” Gaoyang shouted, pulling Lin Xue aside.

Zhou Cheng drew his gun and fired at the giant’s eyes, but the bullets could not penetrate its defenses.

“Damn it, how do we fight this thing?” Zhou Cheng cursed.

Gaoyang tightened his grip on the bat as lightning gathered rapidly around it. His gaze was icy, body lowered into an attacking stance.

“Hold it off—I’ll deal with it,” he said.

Zhou Cheng hesitated but quickly nodded. “Alright, I’ll try to keep it busy!”

Lin Xue stood firm, using her dagger to distract the zombie, keeping it away from Gaoyang.

Gaoyang took a deep breath, gripping the bat tightly as lightning surged wildly in his palms. His entire body was enveloped in electric light, as if he had become a living thunderstorm.

“Thunderstrike Finale!” he roared, charging at the giant zombie.

Boom!

A blast of lightning struck the zombie’s chest. It howled in agony as its massive form was torn apart by the electric fury, finally collapsing into a charred, smoldering ruin.

Panting, Gaoyang looked back at Lin Xue and Zhou Cheng. “Go!”

The three dashed out of the camp, behind them echoing the growls of zombies and the cries of the fallen.

The New Order Alliance’s stronghold collapsed under the zombie siege, engulfed in flames.

Once safe, Lin Xue gazed at the burning ruins and whispered, “Those people… are they all gone?”

Gaoyang gave no answer, his cold eyes fixed on the distant inferno.

“There are no permanent sanctuaries in this apocalypse,” he said quietly, voice steady and somber.

Zhou Cheng sank to the ground, exhaustion and pain etched deeply on his face. He looked at Gaoyang and said in a low voice, “The data’s in your hands now. But remember, if we find the Mother Nest, it must be destroyed.”

Gaoyang nodded, determination flashing in his eyes.

“The Mother Nest is key, but this is bigger than just that. The truth of this apocalypse is far more complicated than we realize.”

Lin Xue looked at Gaoyang softly. “Where do we go next?”

Gaoyang clenched his bat, his gaze resolute. “To the next location on the map. We need to find more answers.”

On a silent sea, a solitary island stood like a beacon in the darkness. Thick fog surrounded it, and tall walls encircled the island, making it seem like an isolated refuge from the world.

Gaoyang, Lin Xue, and Zhou Cheng stood aboard a battered small boat, staring at the island.

Zhou Cheng’s face was grimI'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
