Chapter 12: Purple Quality, Extreme Yang Physique
As he walked along, Ye Liuyun spotted several more talent traits related to physical constitution. In the Imperial Prison, where people died every day, the shedding of such traits was entirely expected.
Although collecting these did not cause his blue-quality "Robust" trait to evolve further, Ye Liuyun discovered that a progress bar of sorts had appeared beneath it. Every time he integrated a trait with high similarity, the bar would fill slightly. Perhaps once it was full, the quality of the talent trait would evolve. This discovery bolstered his spirits significantly.
After a full round, his character profile had undergone a complete transformation:
"Talent Trait System!
Host: Ye Liuyun
Realm: Second-rate Warrior
Martial Arts: Wind-Severing Saber Technique
Talent Traits: Fortune (Purple), Robust (Blue), Saber Proficiency (Blue), Eidetic Memory (Blue), Sword Proficiency (Cyan)"
"Eidetic Memory (Blue): Your memory is excellent; you never forget what you have seen."
"Sword Proficiency (Cyan): You possess decent talent for sword techniques."
Though they were only blue or cyan in quality, Ye Liuyun was quite satisfied for the time being.
After wandering for two more days, he had assumed he had gathered all he could and was planning to return only after some time had passed. However, just then, two Imperial Guards brought in a prisoner from outside, apparently ready for immediate execution.
"No! Spare me, please spare me! I won’t dare do it again!"
The man looked like a frail scholar, his lower body a bloody mess, as if he had just been castrated. He pleaded weakly, but no matter how he struggled or begged, it was futile. The guards bound him tightly to the rack.
What caught Ye Liuyun’s attention, however, was the man’s talent traits:
"Target: Ying Jing
Realm: None
Talent Traits: Scent Recognition (Cyan), Extreme Yang Body (Purple)"
"Scent Recognition (Cyan): Extremely sensitive to the fragrance of women."
"Extreme Yang Body (Purple): Naturally endowed with vigorous Yang energy; yields unexpected, miraculous effects when practicing corresponding techniques."
He could ignore the Scent Recognition, but the Extreme Yang Body caught his eye. It was purple-quality. Aside from his own "Fortune" trait, this was the first time he had seen a purple-quality trait on someone else. It clearly possessed extraordinary potential.
Seeing that the execution had begun, Ye Liuyun did not intervene but instead asked the nearby Imperial Guard, "What was this man arrested for?"
The guard, having just returned from outside, was slightly puzzled but, seeing Ye Liuyun’s official uniform, answered without impatience: "Reporting to the Lord, this man was originally a servant in a court official’s household. Because of his striking appearance, he had illicit affairs with many women in the household. Once discovered, he was sent to us."
That was putting it mildly. After all, the official could hardly admit that the man had laid with his wife and concubines alike. If they had discovered it any later, every woman in the estate would have been compromised.
"I see," Ye Liuyun nodded, understanding why the man was such a bloody wreck. *So, you used the vigorous energy of an Extreme Yang Body for such things, did you?*
This served as a lesson to Ye Liuyun: talent alone is useless without strength. Only a genius who survives to grow is a true genius. There were many talented people in this world, but few ever had the chance to truly display it.
"Is there something else, my Lord?" the guard asked, noticing Ye Liuyun staring at the prisoner instead of leaving.
"Nothing. I’ll just wait until he’s dead before I go."
He waved his hand. It wasn't easy to encounter a purple trait; he couldn't let it slip by.
The guard was speechless. *What kind of hobby is this? Enjoying watching people die?* Though stunned, the guard dared not say a word.
The torture devices within the Imperial Prison were difficult for even martial artists to withstand, let alone a man like Ying Jing, who had never trained and possessed no cultivation. Despite the existence of his Extreme Yang Body, he did not even last an hour. He died with a look of unwillingness, though it was unclear what exactly he regretted.
The moment the purple trait drifted out, Ye Liuyun decisively claimed it. As for the "Scent Recognition," he took that as well—purely out of curiosity.
"Talent Trait System!
Host: Ye Liuyun
Realm: Second-rate Warrior
Martial Arts: Wind-Severing Saber Technique
Talent Traits: Fortune (Purple), Robust (Blue), Saber Proficiency (Blue), Eidetic Memory (Blue), Sword Proficiency (Cyan), Extreme Yang Body (Purple), Scent Recognition (Cyan)"
He felt no immediate effect from Scent Recognition, but the moment he gained the Extreme Yang Body, Ye Liuyun felt a surge of heat, a warm current flowing through his meridians.
"Haa!"
It felt wonderful—better than soaking in a medicinal bath.
*Pop!*
His heart skipped a beat, as if a blockage had cleared. When he reflected, he realized the inner energy in his dantian, previously only a few wisps, had surged wildly in that instant.
"Did I break through?"
He was momentarily stunned. He hadn't even practiced; simply obtaining the purple-quality Extreme Yang Body had triggered a breakthrough. Checking his character profile again, his status had shifted from a second-rate warrior to a first-rate one.
"Not bad! Not bad at all!"
Satisfied, Ye Liuyun nodded and left without further hesitation.
Watching him walk away, the Imperial Guard scratched his head in confusion. *Why was this official so happy to see someone die? Could he really have such a strange hobby? That’s a bit terrifying.* He shrank his neck, not daring to gossip.
"He really was just watching."
After Ye Liuyun left, Xiao Yongning summoned a few subordinates. He had heard of Ye Liuyun—a man known for never acting without profit—and had suspected he had ulterior motives for visiting the prison. But according to the reports, he had simply watched the execution and done nothing else. It was rumored that he took pleasure in seeing people die before his eyes.
"He couldn't really have such a perverse hobby, could he?" Xiao Yongning muttered to himself. He didn't dwell on it, though; in his prison, almost everyone had some sort of peculiar habit.
